My mind rambled through “black phoebe?” and even “leaden flycatcher?” (Seen once in Queensland) before I realized what it was. I’ve never seen one not flitting through branches before.

One thing I didn’t expect at all today was that, while invited over to a neighbour’s for a pre-Thanksgiving libation, I’d look out her window to see a black-throated blue warbler meticulously cleaning her trelliswork. Toronto, Cabbagetown neighbourhood.

#StillDoinCDs Jakko M. Jakszyk was the son of an Irish singer & unknown father, adopted early by a Polish couple in London. A career as an esteemed rock guitarist & songwriter didn’t sate an urge to find his bio-dad. “Son of Glen” (2025) is a musically fluent reveal of a never-met US airman.
A man (50s) and a woman (30s) dressed mainly in black (but the woman wears a patterned deep crimson top and has a pale blond bang in her long dyed-black hair) sit on a red divan with a purple throw pillow between them. This scene is set in a narrow room alcove filled with religious objects, mainly crucifixes, and family photos, along with some miscellaneous artworks and glass display casings.

#StillDoinCDs Elham (Matin Elham on streaming sites) is an expat Persian singer recording out of the Iranian émigré stronghold (one hopes) of Reseda, California. 2003’s Hanouzam Dir Nashodeh (Never Too Late) starts with synth-pop, moves on to more trad pop & ends with Amr Diab banger Nour el Ain.
A 30-something Iranian guy is seen in half-turned profile in a black shirt so just his head & neck glow in the incident light.

#StillDoinCDs “Dark Side of the Moon,” something of a concept album about being driven mad by modern times, was a 1973 Pink Floyd epic that is the 3d biggest seller of all time. It’s also a personal favourite of mine ever since I heard bits as house music at an Applejack (early Trooper) concert.

A Great Blue Heron and a Red-shouldered Hawk for today’s #BirdOfTheDay themes of #BlueWater, birds surrounded by Blue Water, and #Perched, birds standing on anything except branches. #ECK #WCK #PNW #Birds #Heron #Hawk #Nature #Photography
A great blue heron standing tall in calm, blue water. The bird has a slate-gray body, a long neck, and a sharp, pointed bill facing left. Its distinct form creates a sharp, vertical reflection in the water below. The surrounding water surface is covered in gentle, horizontal ripples. A Red-shouldered hawk perched atop a rusty, weathered metal pipe. The raptor features a beautifully patterned plumage, showcasing a warm rufous chest and head, a curved dark beak with a yellow base, and distinct black-and-white checkered patterning running down its wings and tail feathers. It faces to the right, looking back slightly over its shoulder against a soft, out-of-focus background.

#StillDoinCDs Jeff Beck’s 1972 4th album under his own name & last with “Jeff Beck Group” was most popular in Canada, reaching #15. It featured 5 covers incl. the definitive version of southern rocker Don Nix’s “Going Down.” Gold record despite critics’ negativities at the time.
Rows of small upright rectangular photographs make up the cover. The top row consists of four blank panels and a central photo of an orange. The remaining four rows consist of black-and-white head shots of band members, repeated in the same order in each row, slightly tinted in different background colour shades.
