I can’t take photos in my yard anymore without my assistant. Unfortunately she isn’t very helpful, but I don’t have the heart to fire her. #cats

Cream-colored California poppy. This one ha some slight color variation tha I don’t normally see in the cream ones. It had sone nice ruffles that were similar on each petal. Maybe because it is new? #flowers #poppies #photography

Aliens do exist, they come in the form of plants. Passionfruit flower. Rather than put up a trellis, I planted next to an acacia and let it climb the tree and use the dead lower branches as support. Had to take this photo from a ladder. #flowers #gardening #photography

In science, we often measure what we can’t see directly. Much like this shadow of a poppy, we observe indirectly and incompletely, but hopefully enough that we can create a reasonable model for the real world. #shadows #flowers #photography

A live and dead elkhorn fern. We inherited these with our house. They were in a rainforest the previous owners kept. We’re the driest state in Australia. We kept these alive as long as we could, it made it 10 years. #ferns #textures #photography

While there weren’t a lot of bees around yesterday, there were a lot of hoverflies. Hoverflies ar possibly the second most important pollinators after bees. Both date to the early Cretaceous shortly after the evolution of flowering plants. #insects #flies #flowers #macro #photography
