Some months ago, I wrote a skeptical reply to a commentary on bots in online studies in PNAS, arguing that no evidence yet exists for such bots. I think this also needs to be seen in context of decreasing national funding. But yes, AI likely decreases the application threshold significantly. Is it the core issue? Probably not, award rates were ridiculous even before.

Another thought: Ruben is *not* a sloppy guy but rather paranoid about making mistakes. The models are still able to catch at least some legit issues. Now imagine if we were serious about the scientific record being accurate and implemented such checks before stuff gets published.

I think this genuinely can be a good thing. An automated agent that a) tries to run the code to see if it does what it is supposed to do and b) checks it for conceptual or implementation errors (code can run but be very wrong nevertheless).

This is great! I've used Stan and JAX separately for different projects in the past, both are great, so hopefully this will be a huge step forward towards making Bayesian models faster. And then perhaps brms can now be used with Stan -> Jax as well?

Interesting, but as a person engaged with normative behavior modeling, I cannot help but notice that based on this plot, choosing AI would lead to better overall performance if I had to decide whether to use AI or not. And from a practical perspective, people use LLM differently depending on goals.

I've spent last week trying to decode orientation from EEG data. The biggest insight I got is how noisy it is compare with fMRI signals I'm used to =) And I seemingly cannot get IEM (or PRINCE-like model) to get above-LDA accuracy (measured as circ correlation), and not for the lack of trying.
