"But the handicapped need cars!" No, what they need are options in mobility. The tech exists to enable their freedom of independent mobility, but almost always what is lacking is the enabling infrastructure. Bike lanes and quality sidewalks serve everyone.

Good coverage of Edmonton's most racist bylaw. It's doing what it seems like it was intended to do, however. The City and the police seem to desire the cruelty, and they continue to defend it and the outcomes they know, or should know, that it has.

This news item talks about a study that found that lack of safe bicycle infrastructure doesn’t result in more injuries… but thankfully they dove into the details and it’s the same b/c less people ride. In other words, people factor the risk in the mode they choose. #yycBike #yegBike #BikeTO

Every time I return to Paris, I notice they've done more to reclaim streets from drivers and cars, including removing on-street parking, protecting cyclists from drivers, and prioritizing pedestrians and cyclists in shared spaces. Other cities can learn a lot from Paris.

A good example: Local Street Bikleways (LSBs) put in under ATNE. East of 75st on 119 Ave: they are basically shared streets with some bad speed bumps and a low density of modal filters. Grovenor was going to get probably the best LSB the city had ever seen. More traffic calming over fewer blocks.

People roll their eyes when we complain about bike lanes protected by just paint or plastic sticks, but paint doesn't stop multi-ton vehicles. Look at the force required to move these concrete barriers. This is exactly why solid physical protection is the only acceptable standard.
