interesting that conservatives were militantly “we must reward hustle” when the target was affirmative action at elite universities and now, when faced with the success of south asians and other groups, it is “i think we are too meritocratic”

sometimes i feel like people understand that the war on drugs is a failure across every front (# of drugs in country, # of drug users, utility of spending, millions dead, millions incarcerated, etc), but don't internalize that it necessitates entirely rethinking societal relationship to substances.

The NYT is ok with extremist ideology as an anecdote in a profile—but highly allergic to any deeper examination of the ideology itself. No one gets to write an op-ed explaining any of this. That’s not allowed. But a billionaire can drop it in a quote as a passing comment.

The nice thing about being a determinist is all systems are deterministic. The problem with being a determinist is that there’s just way too many interactions and influences for you to ever understand them except as non-deterministic

As usual, the Centrist Messaging Geniuses have come up with a message that pleases literally no one.
In an interview last week, Mr. Moulton said that despite that apology, he was not sorry for the substance of his earlier remarks. He said that Democrats should acknowledge that voters do not want a full integration of trans athletes into youth sports.

“There are a lot of people who agree with Democrats that trans people should be protected, have full rights, and should be able to serve in the military,” he said. “But when it comes to competitive sports, they feel uncomfortable. And our party’s message to those people has been: You are wrong and you’re a terrible person.”

He blamed Mr. Markey for injecting a divisive social issue into the primary campaign.

Largely given up yelling at the NYT because - as I learned too late - my outrage was the point. Leadership felt embarrassed by the Bennet resignation and viewed themselves in competition not with WaPo or WSJ but Bari Weiss and Chris Rufo. They latched onto trans rights as their proving ground.

Oh this is delightful. Let's start with SpaceX's violation of 17 CFR § 229.504 (Item 504). Their "use of proceeds" neglects to mention they are contractually obligated to use the first $20 billion from it to pay off a bridge loan. This is also while their quarterly cash burn exceeds $8 billion. /1
USE OF PROCEEDSWe expect to receive approximately $ of net proceeds from this offering (or $ if the underwriters exercise their option to purchase additional shares of Class A common stock in full), based upon the assumed initial public offering price of $ per share (which is the midpoint of the price range set forth on the cover page of this prospectus) after deducting underwriting discounts and commissions and estimated offering expenses payable by us. We intend to use the net proceeds from this offering to fund our growth strategy, including the expansion of our AI compute infrastructure, enhancements to our launch infrastructure and launch vehicles, increases in the scale and capacity of our satellite constellations, and any remaining amounts for general corporate purposes.SpaceX Bridge LoanIn March 2026, SpaceX entered into a new bridge loan credit agreement (the “SpaceX Bridge Loan”) with a syndicate of lenders, providing for an unsecured bridge term loan facility in an aggregate principal amount of $20,000 million. The SpaceX Bridge Loan matures on September 2, 2027, with two three-month extensions at the Company’s option, subject to the absence of a continuing default and the payment of an extension fee of 0.25% of the aggregate outstanding principal per extension, resulting in a final extended maturity date of March 2028. The proceeds of the SpaceX Bridge Loan were used to repay the X B-1 Term Loan, the X B-3 Term Loan, the xAI Fixed Rate Loan, the xAI Floating Rate Loan and the xAI 12.5% Senior Secured Notes (as defined and described in Note 10, Debt, to the consolidated financial statements included elsewhere in this prospectus). The Company may also use the remaining proceeds for general corporate purposes. The SpaceX Bridge Loan bears interest, at the Company’s election, at a rate per annum equal to (i) Term SOFR plus an applicable margin ranging from 0.75%-1.75% (depending on the Company’s debt rating), or (ii) a base rate equal to the highest of (a) the Federal Funds Rate plus 0.5%, (b) the Prime Rate, (c) Term SOFR plus 1.0% and (d) 1.00%, plus an applicable margin ranging from 0.00% to 0.75% (depending on the Company’s debt rating). In addition, the Company is obligated to pay duration fees equal to 0.125% of outstanding principal on the first anniversary of closing and 0.25% of outstanding principal on the fifteen-month anniversary of closing. As of March 31, 2026, the Company was in compliance with all covenants under the SpaceX Bridge Loan. The obligations of the Company under the SpaceX Bridge Loan are guaranteed on a joint and several basis by X Corp., X.AI LLC, and CTC Property LLC (each a subsidiary of the Company). The SpaceX Bridge Loan may be prepaid at any time, in whole or in part, without premium or penalty. The Company is required to use an amount

Two relevant paragraphs from a recent essay of mine thefudletter.com/the-media-is...
If instead the scandals are multitudinous, the numbers stolen beyond any person's ability to grasp, and the destruction never before seen, then the pundits and the posters and the writers and the creators cannot truly understand any of them. They never become part of the language; they never become part of the shorthand. They contribute to a vague sense of corruption, but each scandal far beyond Billygate has less staying power than Billygate because it cannot enter this interpersonal understanding. It is far easier to remember 'Biden-Burisma' than it is to understand the relationship between various cryptocurrency memecoins with proceeds routed through shell corporations, which seems less significant than the bribery jet, which seems less important than the looting of the US Treasury, which seems less important than his threat to take over the Federal Reserve, which seems less important than his intent to run for a third term, which seems less important than his desire to become a dictator.
