I see people saying stuff like "why criticize Substack but give other problematic platforms (like, say, YouTube) a pass? Which is a fair point. Thing is, YouTube is a quasi-monopoly for sharable video. Substack wants to have a newsletter monopoly but *isn't there yet*. And it should never happen.

I cannot truly explain how it feels to have previously been a contributing writer to a paper that has now dedicated itself to destroying my community. I want to say it's weird, or scary. But it's more than that. It's radically destabilizing. My past and present selves don't recognize each other.

@pasisalenius.bsky.social I just found your app Maptrails! I’ve been wanting to make something similar for my iPad and shocked at the dearth of native options. Thanks for making something so beautiful. 🙂

Warms my heart knowing that librarians, archivists, and data hoarders alike are joining together in response to the federal data purge. www.newyorker.com/news/the-led...

The last few times I’ve had trouble sleeping, throwing a YouTube video on about systemd has worked great to knock me out. Trouble is now I’m starting to take an interest in it and the whole strategy backfired last night. Stayed awake through an entire conference talk.

You know what we do on the Discord server I co-administrate comes across someone who’s been consistently a problem on other sites/servers? We either ban them or preemptively disinvite them from the server. It’s not that hard. We have to protect the people who depend on us to moderate.

On Jesse Signal , his abuse of trans people via his platform , and Bluesky’s radio silence and quiet refusal to enforce its own TOS , which he is flagrantly violating openly , equally across the board .

Whenever someone tells me about a new application that uses “web technologies”, I just know that it’s gonna use way too much memory and stutter when simply resizing its window.

Did you know Bluesky has built-in RSS feeds? If you add /rss to a profile URL, it will load in any RSS reader. Perfect thing for those of us who have 15 year old gaming keyboards. I should totally add @f4mi.bsky.social to this...

close up of the information LCD on a Logitech G510 keyboard, illuminated in red. It displays an RSS feed from @bsky.app, "me watching Bluesky's user count grow by another million in a day hello and welcome to all 19M of you!"

A section of the F-keys are lit red below the display.
