I looked into Google's renaming of it, and they use GNIS data, who's names are in theory is controlled by www.usgs.gov/us-board-on-... . As I understand it, the president cannot mandate a name change. So unsurprisingly, this renaming seems to be illegal! Shocking!

You would have to look at the map really closely, but that $30 billion in US cargo from the Great Lakes doesn't go over Niagara Falls to get to Lake America, it actually goes through Ontario. So Canada has its own Strait of Hormuz or Panama Canal that can be closed down to US ships.
