The thing about Chait is that he’s for real stupid. He is not cognitively capable of understanding arguments as sophisticated as the average person is. Here is the thing about his take here: Chait (and other centrists) cannot seem to grapple with the fact that there are people who are motivated by a fairly consistent set of values (all of these issues can be fairly seen as of a piece with one another morally).
