BigSlim @imbigslim.bsky.social · 15/02/2025What’s happening in Sicily, Italy 🇮🇹 is absolutely extraordinary! Mount Etna is erupting while its summit remains covered in snow—an incredible clash of fire and ice. Here are some explorers skiing between lava flows and snowy slopes—a truly unprecedented sight! ⛷🔥❄️ 994374841

Jazz @jazzgaviria.bsky.social · 15/02/2025This happened in Colombia decades ago and the snow melted creating a slide that destroyed an entire town killing so much people on the way 😭 this things are no joke! 0110

RobinLikeTheBird @dayzee634.bsky.social · 15/02/2025Well, that sounds like an extraordinarily stupid thing to do. Why are you giving them airtime? 160
Laura @tofuchic.bsky.social · 15/02/2025Whoa. Reminds me of that old Robert Frost poem. Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I’ve tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice. 1110
Andy @silverliningguy.bsky.social · 15/02/2025That looks amazing but I’d be the guy who trips in the snow and gets dissolved by the burning death 2290
shytiger6 (Matthew Paige) @shytiger6.bsky.social · 15/02/2025That is pretty dangerous. The lava flows can easily melt the snow causing floods and mudslides. I would never do it. However, I do have to admit, it is interesting to watch. 010

Renaissance Swine @couple2tree.bsky.social · 15/02/2025I lived in Nicolosi years ago when Etna began an active cycle that persists to this day. The lava creeps, but rumbles out a lot of cinders and the occasional rock. The snow fields are not particularly steep. There was a light chair lift, but I believe it succumbed to a lava flow. 000
lorrainejoy1010.bsky.social @lorrainejoy1010.bsky.social · 15/02/2025Oh that’s wild! Talk about once in a lifetime opportunity !! 050
SixThrees @sixthrees.bsky.social · 15/02/2025I climbed Mt Etna, and it is truly a strange experience that in the one day you can be on a sunny beach swimming, then hiking in freezing snow, then derobing over a volcanic exhaust because it's so hot 1172
Kevin (MogarPrime) @mogarprime17.bsky.social · 15/02/2025And here I thought stuff like this only happened in Super Mario Galaxy. 020
RFK Jr's Brainworm @astrobot101.bsky.social · 15/02/2025Surface temperatures have NOTHING to do with eruptions. No amount of ice or snow could influence the pressure of the lava dome rising. It is not a 'clash" of fire and ice. 010

AutumnSun9 @autumnsun9.bsky.social · 15/02/2025Do they know lava shelfs can be super thin and fragile? There can be expansive holes to fall into or just a live lava flow just underneath 🤷♀️ 1130
Kenny MacLeod @kennymacleod.bsky.social · 15/02/2025They're in for a blast when that lava comes up under the snow and creates a phreatic steam explosion. 060
