Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan @london.gov.uk · 14/08/2026The coolest technology in a heatwave? Trees. Every tree planted today helps create a cooler, greener and healthier London tomorrow. We've already planted more than 640,000 trees since 2016, and we're continuing to grow and protect our urban forest to help London adapt to hotter summers. 36732211

Romyisagirlsname @piquedpoppy.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Sounds great but the overall canopy in London is no different to 10 years ago due to felling of mature trees, some for valid reasons but others just to enable development. Every tree felled creates a hotter, browner & less healthy London. All mature trees should be protected & even more planted. 000
Joanna Pegum @londoner007.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Let’s make sure we keep our existing trees @savevtg.bsky.social 060

Colin Hutchings @colinhutchings.bsky.social · 15/08/2026Planting trees is good, but that’s until they want to build a new housing estate or a new road and trees are taken down. 000
Kent Miller @kentmiller.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Hi Mayor, welcome to visit Sacramento, Tree City USA! 160
Hugo @nonviolence.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Where do Londoners get their #food from that they depend on to live? What is the art of living?Hugo@nonviolence.bsky.socialEvery human living in cities rents land and slaves to stay alive and to be able to ponder what to do with their lives. Where and what do I want to eat tonight? Entitlement and disappointment or unhappiness are the same. Life is not about us and ows us nothing. We owe life on Earth our lives. 001
Hugo @nonviolence.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Save #trees and #wildlife. Stop enslaving, torturing and killing animals for our short-term taste pleasure or game over.Hugo@nonviolence.bsky.social#AMOC collapse is the most discussed tipping point because it's in the future. AMOC collapse is NOT the worst tipping point there is. AMOC collapse is caused by other tipping points like the carbon sinks (primary production) collapsing. Today. #climate #science www.theguardian.com/environment/...theguardian.comAmazon rainforest now emitting more CO2 than it absorbsCutting emissions more urgent than ever, say scientists, with forest producing more than a billion tonnes of carbon dioxide a year 023
Sarah Chapman @sinurata.bsky.social · 14/08/202670% of trees are in private gardens. We need to be making sure that people are encouraged to plant more and discouraged from chopping them down. Around where I live people have been ripping out hedges right left and centre and it is hugely depressing. 110
Marc Woodhurst @marcwoodhurst.bsky.social · 15/08/2026This is a good initiative, but you’ll need to replant a large percentage of them: across the areas of SE London where I work and live (Greenwich and Bexley boroughs) very large numbers of young trees planted over the last ten years are dead. Many died before the drought, many more since. 000
Chris Fitch @chrisfitchchris.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Sadiq please build more dense Miyawaki forests. No more of these lonely single trees that require loads of maintenance 000
chiller @chiller.eurosky.social · 14/08/2026Protect the trees that are already there, and make sure new ones have regular care (watering) for the first few years to establish, because if you're planting saplings and they get this weather in their first few summers without regular watering ... they are toast. 020
Simon James @jim1132.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Some figures by borough and thrir plans would be useful - the Green credentials of mine are pretty thin, from what I see. 010
Chris Nimmo @omminc.bsky.social · 14/08/2026This is SO true. We do a 4 mile walk every week and the difference in temperature between walking in the open and walking through woods is really noticeable. In the woods it's quite pleasant while in the open it's the opposite. 0130
Vicki the cats' mother @catsmother.bsky.social · 14/08/2026I sincerely hope that plan included a long-term commitment to watering those trees until they've fully-established their root systems. 183
Jan Chamier @janmicham.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Yes 👍 great, but they need to be trees that grow to a good size to create proper shade and habitat ( not tiny ornamental ones). 030

ginav.bsky.social @ginav.bsky.social · 14/08/2026So long as you water them! So many dead saplings around. 020
Judith Lee @judithlee33.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Trees really do helping to shade buildings during periods of extreme heat and it's vital to understand that stopping heat getting into buildings in the 1st place should be the aim. Internal blinds/curtains etc help, but external shutters, awnings, etc are by far the best ways to keep cool indoors. 000
Susan Eastoe @susaneastoe.bsky.social · 14/08/2026And if you are building outside London trees should never be taken down - if you have to build you need to go around them 0140
ReMona Lisa - News Reader - @thebookwormturns.co.uk · 14/08/2026If the heat bothers you, plant a tree. If the rain bothers you, plant a tree. If you like fruit, plant a tree. If you like birds, plant a tree. And if you like life, plant a tree. 0101
Mikey/Leon or Sonic when it’s crunch time @lordofthevan.wsocial.eu · 14/08/2026Yes, and how many of those trees that you have planted are still alive? That’s a number which is far more interesting to me. 000
Ben @lawlessbenny.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Get the right trees in for the changing climate. Sadly, the ubiquitous city yes like planes that are famously effective at absorbing pollution are struggling with the modern climate 040
Andrew Jones @arj2024.bsky.social · 15/08/2026It’s pretty clear to those in the countryside, but in towns, it’s usually the councils cutting down trees because they can’t handle the insurance risk of keeping them. Perhaps you need to sort out the insurance industry if you want to keep urban trees? 000
Monty Dodge @montyofdodgington.bsky.social · 14/08/2026You maybe already aware but please be mindful where you plant the trees. The root systems can cause £100,000 of pounds worth of damage! 000
