Torsten Bell @torstenbell.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Now John Kemp-Welch has’t done anything wrong. He’s completely entitled to protest against a tax change that would be costly to him. Many people would do the same. 346939
Torsten Bell @torstenbell.bsky.social · 25/11/2024But our ‘paper of record’ might want to at least consider the fact that stockbroker, banker, or businessmen would be better labels, at least to sit alongside that of ‘farmer’ 2255980
iebathrugby.bsky.social @iebathrugby.bsky.social · 26/11/2024The majority of farm land (& land) is owned by the few since 1066 when land was given to the Lords/Barrons. The poor farmers have to lease land and pay rent on the farm house, these won't be affected. The media & the few getting all the attention. How did those land owners manage to take time off. 020
stringerred.bsky.social @stringerred.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Thanks very informative to how media outlets skew their agenda 040
stringerred.bsky.social @stringerred.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Thanks very informative on how skewed some of the media operate 080
Chris @cjnmcg.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Interesting. Is this a bigger story that you need to have a significant former career in order to be a farmer? Be it popstar, tv presenter or banker? Have real farmers been priced out of the job market thanks to IHT? 010
Anja Bew @gingerbew.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Thanks for presenting the facts 👍 disappointed by the journalist who wrote that article… very 1 sided 1220
DenisTheMenace @denistheman.bsky.social · 27/11/2024Half of England is owned by less than 1% of the population www.theguardian.com/money/2019/a...theguardian.comHalf of England is owned by less than 1% of the populationResearch by author reveals corporations and aristocrats are the biggest landowners 030
Nadja von Massow @natz.net · 26/11/2024Brilliantly put, great thread. Is anybody else writing more about this skewed reality anywhere? I think Friday's episode of @hignfy.bsky.social is probably another excellent source of uncovering the millionaire protester scam. 000
mcknrobe.bsky.social @mcknrobe.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Jeeeez blatant misrepresentation by the Times, or the Farmer, or both 🤔 0361
Martini Henrie @martinihenrie.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Time to take self-regulation away, and do a proper job of holding the media to the facts, and not just twisted opinions without recourse 1907
Vickie Best @tsebvickie.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Great post, thank you. I’d have stopped buying the Times years ago if it wasn’t for the Saturday crossword. If anyone can recommend an alternative I’d appreciate it!! Not cryptic - I’m not that clever…. 551
Bimbling @bimbling.bsky.social · 26/11/2024It's principally a grouse moor in Perthshire not a hill farm. An Internet search for "Strathbraan Raptors" will provide an insight into estate management in the glen where his 'hill farm' is located. 040
Phil Leighton @joseph-yossarian.bsky.social · 26/11/2024You can’t believe that this misrepresentation is other than deliberate. Painting multimillionaire farmers as victims when 30% of children live in poverty in our country is obscene 0153
Michael Carlson @micarlson.bsky.social · 26/11/2024i would be exceedingly surprised if either he or his children are out trying to fend off poverty while herding sheep on their 5000 acres of hard scrabble land 041
Blueski-by-sea @tweet-by-sea.bsky.social · 25/11/2024And not forgetting that newspaper owners probably also make use of this tax loopholeBlueski-by-sea@tweet-by-sea.bsky.socialIf you're wondering why you're hearing so much about inheritance tax on land, just remember that Viscount Rothermere, ultimate owner of the Daily Mail through various trusts, is said to own a 4,700 acre estate in Dorset. Torsten Bell @torstenbell.bsky.social · 25/11/2024This is just a gentle reminder of who the status quo inheritance tax wise works for (there’s a reason the very largest estates pay less than some far smaller) & that proper facts should form part of proper journalism when reporting an entirely legit inheritance tax debate 157377
OliverCorlett @olivercorlett.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Is the Times still really the "paper of record"? I would think any Murdoch-owned paper should be disqualified from that role. 1433
