Mrs Bimbling and I got out earlier this week to bag hills she missed previously because we abandoned after she developed a sore knee on the hill. So, Aonach Beag and Beinn Eibhinn via Sgòr Iutharn. Great day out and the 'coping with vertigo course' she attended has been a great help too.

We have been so very busy this summer, we haven't put on as many free events as we would have liked. We couldn't let International Bat Night go unmarked though, so we are leading a bat walk this Saturday evening! All welcome to join 🦇 Local folk please share 🙏 #internationalbatnight

Great hike around Braeriach today, although a bit more breezy than I'd like. Still, kept flies and midges at bay. Lots of golden plover on the plateau getting ready for the off.

No images I'm afraid, but great fun watching an albino or leucistic house martin this morning. Was on a bike ride, so I might go back with binoculars if I get the chance. Looked like a small white handkerchief whizzing about with its pals.

Great day hillwalking yesterday: dry underfoot, good views, just enough breeze to (mostly) keep the midges at bay. Best of all a pair of white-tailed eagles circling together with occasional talon clasping and then a golden eagle flypast. Amazing. Always carry binoculars! 😉

It's true not everyone can walk, or ride a bike, or use public transit. But for most of us, that's not because of anything to do with the act of walking, biking, or using transit itself. 🧵

Came across this, which I think might be a northern egger caterpillar on an early morning walk in to the Fisherfield hills. Not much more to say, other than it wasn't the only hairy caterpillar seen that day so it's no wonder there were so many cuckoos to be heard.

This is spring for me; chiffchaff singing and larch bursting into flower. Such colourful and delicate looking things. Our local wood has a high south facing viewpoint and the larches both provide shelter from the early spring wind, and absorb the heat reflected off the cliff to get an early start.

Fab half day on Carn Liath above Blair Atholl. Pretty good views but not as clear as expected. But Blair Castle and Schiehallion obvious. Also a quite bracing -11.3⁰C in the light breeze at the top.

Managed to get out of the valley murk and into the sunshine late morning. Ground was still well frozen so shoes stayed clean. Frost 'heave' is very evident so it'll be gey clarty underfoot if/when it does warm up. The clearing mist added interest.

This is a not altogether brilliant photo of what my friend and I think is the outcome of a lightning strike near the summit of Leum Uilleim. At the source(?) of the strike dining table size rock had been up-ended and a 'plough-line' of disrupted rock tailed off into shallow peat. V.impressive!
Evidence of a lightning strike on a Scottish mountain top. Photo is taken at the source of the strike and shows a line of some 10 metres of broken and disturbed rocks with an arrow showing where the strike tailed off into the shallow mountain soil.
