Absolute longshot: I'm looking for Euan Smith who drew artwork for White Dwarf magazine in the mid 1980s and therefore is probably British and probably in his late 50s or 60s. Do you or did you know him?

I also love the fact that the setting does "used future" well; there's lasers and fusion reactors but none of it feels especially hyper-tech. You can and occasionally do go into battle with a mech with a crack in its reactor shielding because there's just no time, parts or facilities to repair it.

The sheer cussedness of the game system. In an era when most wargames have dedicated themselves to smoothing out the RNGiness of the combat, BattleTech stands alone as gloriously unconcerned by it being a bit swingy if you randomly catch a Gauss round to the face on turn 1.

Okay, I have a question for the BattleTech players. What is your single favorite thing about the games? Is it the lore, the battle, the rpg elements, the setting, what do you LOVE about it?
