I watched Backrooms last night and it was… OK? I felt like the hype on this movie oversold it. For my money, the odd, “wtf did I just watch” youtube videos are better than the movie in almost every conceivable way. The movie feels like someone trying to explain the youtube series to your dad.

Another thing I catch myself doing a lot is starting sentences with “I mean… .” I suppose it’s a hedge or a form of deflection. As if what I’m about to say is a guess or conjecture. I won’t necessarily DEFEND what I’m about to say, but I’m saying it anyway.

I knew a guy who studied philosophy in college but was a devout, hard-line catholic. He believed that — in the end — only one worldview could be true, and that it was Catholicism, and that the point of philosophy was to slowly eliminate all the other worldviews. I think he had a masters degree.
