The motorist community needs to clean up its act, especially if drivers expect taxpayers to keep building car lanes.

It really sucks that killing someone is basically legal in this country if you do it with your car
A Virginia driver who struck and killed a pedestrian less than three months ago had his case dismissed Thursday after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor and completing 20 hours of community service.
On June 18, the driver of a Prius jumped the curb of a Leesburg Pike service road near Seven Corners and fatally hit 38-year-old Sean King.

Tesla's defective self-driving software will still illegally blow past a stopped school bus and run down a child crossing the road! We warned Tesla of this danger 4 years ago and the safety defect hasn't been fixed in FSD v14 Lite. Why is this product allowed on public roads?

Helmets are often misinterpreted as the solution to safety. Put simply, they aren't. Helmets protect your head from an uncontrolled fall. Proper infrastructure is what protects you from multi-ton vehicles. Don't conflate the two, they are worlds apart.

Flip the script so that what's extreme is requiring people to buy a $50,000, dinosaur-juice-burning, 6000-lb machine to take the kids to school or get a gallon of milk... ...while riding a $5,000, 70-lb bike powered by a combo of a trickle of electricity and your own two legs is just normal.

There are zero "anti-car activists" (the term being thrown around today) who believe that vital services such as emergency response and sanitation shouldn't be done with vehicles. The issue is personal automobile ownership and the over-deployment of cars at the expense of nearly everything else.

We build vehicles that weigh 9000 pounds with 1000HP, can go 0-60mph in 3 seconds and market them recklessly. We then ask people to wear construction vests to cross the street. This is all so beyond absurd and it's truly incredible that we've normalized this.

Support policies that make cities accessible and inclusive for all ages today. If you don't, you are guaranteeing a future where you're stranded in an isolated suburban retirement home, stripped of your mobility, just waiting for people to visit.

I'm a car-owning Chicagoan, and I want 90% of our streets to be pedestrian-priority spaces, and many of them should be entirely car-free w/ specific delivery access windows. The other 10% is the boulevard network, which will be the only space that somewhat prioritizes cars; speed limit 20mph.

Learning to ride a bike is a child's first taste of independence. Cities need to honor that milestone by building human-first infrastructure that actually gives kids the autonomy to ride safely, completely protected from the threat of motorists and their oversized, overpowered cars.

I wear a helmet. I recommend other people wear helmets. But helmets are not a solution for unsafe infrastructure. That's why so many of us get mad at finger wagging comments about helmets. It hides the real risks to cyclists. Cycling at low speeds is very safe! It's the cars that make it dangerous.
