Ornate Saxon copper disc brooch decorated with gold and garnets, AD 650-670. It must have been a treasured possession! From Floral Street, Covent Garden, once the heart of ‘Lundenwic’, the early Saxon town of London. Museum of London 📷 by me #FindsFriday #Archaeology
My photo shows a circular Saxon brooch made of copper, the front of which is ornately embellished with gold and garnets. There are five raised, circular, gold bosses which are outlined with inlaid garnet slabs, and each set with a central, round garnet. Four of the gold bosses are arranged around a fifth, larger, gold boss in the centre of the brooch. The central boss sits within a star-like, four-pointed geometric shape composed of a mosaic of inlaid garnet slabs. The outer edge of the brooch is decorated with two rows of tiny inlaid polished garnets. The eight gold sections at either side of the four smaller bosses are decorated with raised gold filigree which looks like looped, braided cord. Parts of the brooch are worn, with some chipped edges, and missing garnet stones. The brooch measures approximately 7 cm in diameter. It is displayed on a clear glass surface. It was excavated from a woman's grave by AOC Archaeology in 2000 ahead of development construction works. This type of brooch was a fashionable status piece amongst wealthy aristocratic Anglo-Saxon women in the AD 600s. The woman's grave also contained glass beads and silver rings.

This is the point. Effectively joining the union cannot be on the table because Burnham won't lodge an application, so the process can't start. And because he won't do anything on the SM until after an election, I doubt Europe would give the Commission a mandate. It certainly doesn't have one now.

Fresh discoveries have recently surfaced in Göbeklitepe and Karahantepe, signifying significant archaeological breakthroughs. Göbekli Tepe, which dates back approximately 12,000 years, holds the distinction of being the most ancient megalithic site worldwide. Source | arkeonews.net/new-discover...
Göbeklitepe, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, has revolutionized the perspectives of historians and archaeologists regarding the origins of civilization. Remarkably, it possesses a companion site known as Karahantepe.
The site continues to tantalize researchers with its untapped potential, promising further revelations.
In an official written statement, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Türkiye has disclosed the following information:
A remarkable statue, standing at a height of 2.3 meters, has been unearthed in Karahantepe, showcasing an incredibly lifelike facial expression. This statue stands out due to its striking resemblance to a relief discovered during the Sayburç excavations in 2021. Notably, one of the panels in Sayburç depicts a figure holding their phallus in their right hand. However, the newly discovered statue depicts a figure holding its phallus with both hands.
The seated statue, positioned within a fixed niche on the ground, portrays a deceased human with distinct emphasis on the rib, spinal, and shoulder bones, creating a vivid representation.
Within the same vicinity where the sculpture was found, a vulture sculpture adorning the wall and stone plates scattered on the ground were also uncovered. Recent studies conducted in the Şanlıurfa province of Turkey have provided valuable insights into settlements that indicate the existence of a distinct phase within the Pre-Pottery Neolithic period.
