Here's the short answer. Social Care would be affordable if it was Nationalised. So would Energy. And Water. And Housing. And so on. The problem, no profit for billionaires. But that would be THEIR problem.

Underinvestment assumes water firms lacked money. They didn't. They chose dividends instead. Nationalisation fixes governance. The real question: why does a currency issuer let a monopoly extract rents rather than fund infrastructure directly? #MMT #Economics #UKPolitics Source: BBC Politics

If only. For Americans generally, words like “socialism” and “communism” have no objective meaning. They are merely random insults. When the Wall Street Journal says “unabashedly socialist,” it’s like a three year old calling the neighbour kid a “stoopy-poopyhead.”

Simon Clarke, born in 1984, of course remembers the 70s very well. As someone who was SoS for Levelling Up and Housing and Communities under Johnson, he knows a thing or two about inequality. He was part of a government which has taken us back to Victorian levels of richest and poorest in society.

Unaffordable rents. Spiralling bills. Not enough council homes. People need bold change on housing, not more of the same.
Headline reads: “It’s time to get housing costs under control.”
Quote from Zack Polanski, Leader of the Green Party:
“The Prime Minister promises he won’t ‘back away from difficult issues’ at the Labour Party Conference, but he has little to offer people who are struggling with unaffordable housing and spiralling bills.
“While Labour pats itself on the back in Liverpool, I’ve been knocking on hundreds of doors in Holborn and St Pancras. People want to see bold change, not more of the same - and that’s why we’re calling for rent controls and 150,000 new social and council homes every year.”
