It’s been a while since I posted here - am trying to decide the best place to post about books (posting about books on Twitter (refuse to call it x) is like shouting into the void now!). So hello, and hope you are reading something brilliant!

Weekend Reading - picture taken with help from Youngest Years of Reading and I realised that’s a lot of blue! Am currently reading #Sleep by #HonorJones and chose #ThreeDaysInJune by #AnneTyler plus #ThisIsWhyWeCantHaveNiceThings by #NaomiWood I hope you are reading something fabulous today too!
This is a picture of a stack of three blue books taken against a very blue sky yesterday afternoon outside in my garden!

I completely loved #MySalingerYear by @joannarakoff.bsky.social If you read the book, you’ll see why I chose these others too! It’s a book about life, growing up, and loving books and reading with all your heart. If you love books as much as me, #MySalingerYear should be on your reading list.

Not sure what day it is, but I do know that #SelfPortraitWithBoy by Rachel Lyon has me hooked, and is the perfect read after #HoldStill by Sally Mann. Photographer Lu accidentally captures her neighbour’s son falling to his death, and is faced with a moral dilemma as to what to do with the picture.
The picture shows a copy of Self Portrait with Boy by Rachel Lyon on top of a pale blue duvet with branches of white and yellow blossom on it. Next to the book, Jasper, my three year old fox red Labrador is fast asleep!

Nothing like realising your library book is due back on Saturday and you can’t renew it! Fortunately #TheEchoes by #EvieWyld is a brilliant read so I won’t be getting a fine this time! (I also feel like I am cheating on the other book I’m reading to finish this one…)

Brat summer is a distant memory, its battleaxe winter: season of boilers, dragons & fearsome maiden aunts. Get in girls, we’re wearing our most moth eaten fur coats & rocking up in a fug of Embassy & Yardley with a box of York Fruits & a bottle of Harvey’s Bristol Cream & shit’s about to get real

Finally time to read this evening, so Jasper and I enjoyed the peace and quiet! I picked up #WomenandChildrenFirst by #AlinaGrabowski and I am really enjoying it. It’s out now from The Indigo Press, and is a novel told through the eyes of ten women after a young woman dies at a party.

Many Thanks to Ellie as my copy of #FamousLastWords by @gillianmauthor.bsky.social arrived on Friday. As always, with Gillian’s novels, I naively thought I would read just a chapter. Two hundred pages on, and I haven’t stopped reading all weekend. It’s just brilliant and I know you will love it.

Self Portrait with Boy by Rachel Lyon
Adelaide by Genevieve Wheeler
A Half Baked Idea by Olivia Potts
What I ate in one year by Stanley Tucci
Letters to Margaret by Hunter Davies

Most days I handle being an unpaid carer. Then some days it’s really hard and it’s too much. Reading Tender by Penny Wincer is like someone reading my thoughts and helping me understand that it’s ok to feel like I do. If you are a carer, do make sure this one is on your list.
Picture shows a copy of Tender by Penny Wincer which has a white background and five horizontal stripes of different colours across it, and the word Tender in blue in the middle.
The book is balanced on my knee, as I sit on my sofa, and I have on a pair of blue jeans and black books.

Just in, today’s weather forecast.
Today’s Forecast

After a wet start, rain will give way
to intermittent showers, interspersed
with outbreaks of rain.

As the day progresses, rainclouds
will blow in from the west, bringing with them
the chance of rain-based precipitation

until the early evening,
when the weather will finally settle down
and it will rain constantly.

Tomorrow’s outlook: rain,
with occasional intervals of rain.
