Two things that are in trouble but this government doesn’t give a shit about for some reason: 1. The BBC 2. Universities

Surprised how many people are saying that was the best #SNLUK so far. Dyer was a great host (one of the best), the deconstruction of Weekend Update was amazing and made that one of the best but the rest of the sketches and music were a bit meh.

Honest, drunk, opinion: the calendar seems expensive. I know that's probably just what things cost these days but it seems like a lot. I'll probably still get one but it was enough of a barrier when I frost clicked through

The maddening thing is that the BBC can, uniquely, offer the opposite of AI algorithmic recommendation. We can get that anywhere. It’s not what people want. What’s missing is expert, human, curation. Knowledgable people you trust *telling you* that something’s worth watching. That’s what the BBC has

Hm. Conversations I’ve had with insiders at Netflix are all about how any menu system can’t remotely compete with linear TV - so many disadvantages - and that plenty of programmes and whole genres can only survive on a platform that doesn’t rely on an algorithmic / front page priority system.

Does nobody at the BBC realise what their USP is? Why are they trying to copy the streaming model which feels like it's about to collapse

But annoyed how much I tried to avoid the captioned screenings but have ended up going to a lot of them because other things worked between around them. At least it was my choice this year.

People quite often say to me 'oh, I forgot Bluesky, is that still going?' Of course it isn't all about size, and nobody wants a second Twitter situation, but I do think it's worth evangelising a bit. It's good here (most of the time). We can't live on video social sites alone.

This is one of the most terrifying interviews I’ve ever seen. The slow reveal of the mental landscape at work here. If you don’t end up thinking we should stop these people with as much force as we can muster, I’d be very surprised. youtu.be/lnLDjXy2kRA?...

This is really an appalling end to a chronically-neglected heritage asset. The reason the stained-class windows won't have come out is they would cost more to take out than they would sell for... but is that really "preservation first" as the City Council say?

Ever since I first saw it, this scene has epitomised Amerlcan elegance for me. I wrote a short story about it for Radio 4 (never broadcast) and it's why I drink Gibsons even though nobody who works in a bar these days knows what they are. A perfect scene - RIP Eva Marie Saint.
