This by Courtney Maum is where I am too. I am grateful to her for the words...
For me, the subject of AI detection is an ouroboros. I’ll speak only for myself, here is my opinion. I didn’t ask for artificial intelligence. It’s not something I need, it is not something I desire. And yet, it barged its way into my life and stole all of my books. All of them. Stole them. Trained off of them. Did not compensate me for this theft. So now, AI can write a book like me, because it stole my own work and learned my breed of humor and satire. So if someone runs an AI text detector on my creative output, it will probably “test positive” why? Because AI is a contaminant that has embedded itself into my work by stealing it and using my own work to perpetuate itself. It will test for itself and find AI there because it AI is a virus that has contaminated the DNA of my current and future writing—a form of intellectual rape. A kind of colonization. A raging plague that some gatekeepers are opening the door for.

If you ask me what I’m currently working on, the answer is nothing book-length. I’m not going to publish a new book in this current landscape. That’s a stance of privilege, I recognize that. And I can’t hold this stance forever, I can hold it as long as I have savings from my last book.

This current literary climate isn’t acceptable. It is not acceptable to have a thing thrust upon us that takes absolutely everything, and then be forced to prove that we are not the thieves.

"I have seen the Lord." Blessed feast of St. Mary Magdalene, Apostle to the Apostles, to all who celebrate Image credit: www.sarahbethart.com
Watercolor portrait of Mary Magdalene by Sarah Beth Baca. Half of Mary's face is visible; the other half is out of frame. She wears a green veil with a fish motif, and she has a stylized halo of an earthen hill, three wooden crosses, light, and a golden rim that has tiny books depicted around the words, "I have seen the Lord." Behind her is a gray stone tower, alluding to the possible/probable connection of "Magdala" and "tower."

In light of ICE assassinating another beloved child of God, I am thinking of and praying with the words of St. Oscar Romero. www.romerotrust.org.uk/1980-homilie...
"I would like to make an appeal especially to the men of the army, and concretely to the
National Guard, the police, and the troops. Brothers, you are of part of our own people. You are killing your own brother and sister campesinos, and against any order a man may give to kill, God’s law must prevail: «You shall not kill!» (Ex 20:13).

No soldier is obliged to obey an order against the law of God. No one has to observe an immoral law. It is time now for you to reclaim your conscience and to obey your conscience rather than the command to sin. The church defends the rights of God, the law of God, and the dignity of the human person and therefore cannot remain silent before such great abominations. We want the government to understand well that the reforms are worth nothing if they are stained with so much blood. In the name of God, then, and in the name of this suffering people, whose laments rise up each day more tumultuously toward heaven, I beg you, I beseech you, I order you in the name of God: stop the repression."

stop. if you think the existence of a warrant is part of the conversation in any way, you cannot, by definition, argue that it makes any difference whether the guy they killed had a warrant or not. because right guy or wrong guy, an arrest warrant isn't a death sentence.

“How much is a magical world worth?” A beautiful thread about Cabo Verde, the Peace Corps, and the World Cup:
Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
If you ever doubt how magical this world is, one day you will decide to go to a World Cup watch party in Oakland that you found online to root for a country where you spent two years trying to coax English out of the mouths of Cape Verdean teenagers. 1/7

@jilltucker
X.com
And at the watch party you will ask the organizer if he's from Cape Verde. He will say yes, from Praia. And you'll say oh! I lived there for two years. I was a teacher. And he will ask, "What's your name?" You will tell him and he will say,
"You were my teacher."
CABO VERDE
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 92K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
And across 30+ years and 6,000 miles you will hug a now man who tried to find you and remembered the songs you taught him and his classmates and he will apologize for how badly behaved they all were. And you will laugh and try not to cry and gape in wonder at at this crazy world.

Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
You will remember how much you love the World Cup. And what the Peace Corps meant to you. What those students, 40 to a class with no glass on the windows, meant to you.
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 62K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
Ivan, the grown man with a touch of grey in his beard, will tell you later he has struggled to describe what it meant to him to meet again - that he shared our photo with classmates.
And when he returns from watching the Cabo Verde game, we will try to find the words together.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h And then you read that the US
House of Representatives will vote a day before that game on an amendment to eliminate the Peace Corps, which costs 1/6 the price of the Tomahawk missiles the US used in the war on Iran.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker •20h And you wonder: How much is a magical world worth?

Hand-written poem, titled: DEATH SENTENCES

A WHITE LADY SAID HE WHISTLED AT HER
THOSE SKITTLES LOOKED LIKE A GUN
HE WAS SELLING LOOSE CIGARETTES
SHE WAS SLEEPING IN HER OWN BED
THAT CELLPHONE LOOKED LIKE A GUN
HE WAS GOING FOR A JOG
SHE FAILED TO SIGNAL A LANE CHANGE
THEY SAID HE TRIED TO USE A FAKE $20 BILL
SHE WAS AT HOME PLAYING VIDEOGAMES
HE WAS SITTING ON HIS SOFA EATING ICE CREAM
HE WAS UNLOCKING HIS OWN FRONT DOOR
HE HAD AN AIR FRESHENER
HE WAS IN HIS GRANDMOTHER'S BACKYARD
SHE WAS TRYING TO DRIVE AWAY
HE WAS CELEBRATING NEW YEAR'S
HE WAS HELPING A WOMAN BEING ATTACKED
SHE WAS ON HER WAY TO TEACH KIDS
THEY THOUGHT HIS MOTHER STOLE DIAPERS
