In 1966, Ed Ruscha drove a car rigged with a motorized camera to capture Los Angeles’s most iconic street: Sunset Boulevard. He created a time capsule of its famed facades, beginning a 60-year-long commitment to documenting the changing urban landscape of postwar Los Angeles.

The person at the center of the photograph is artist Ed Ruscha and he is placed behind a camera that is on a tripod in the truck bed. This truck was used for Ruscha's Every Building on Sunset Strip project. One example of a photograph from Ruscha's Every Building on the Sunset Strip project. This is a color photograph taken in 2007. One of my favorite live theater experiences of all time is seeing Hadestown on Broadway with *most of* the original cast. Amber Grey was out for that performance, so we saw an understudy. Now that I’ve seen the pro-shot (twice!) I finally realize just how much we missed out on. She’s phenomenal.

Recency bias (because I just watched the reunion series) compels me to say that it’s Gong Yoo in Goblin.
Gong Yoo as Kim Shin in Goblin. A heartbreakingly handsome Korean man standing outside looking handsome and wearing a handsome cream turtleneck sweater and a handsome tan overcoat.

Never forget that they had to spend trillions of dollars, build massive data centers, consume millions of galloons of water and insane amounts of electricity, just to kind of do what you can do better with your imagination and a cup of coffee. That's how envious they are of what you can do.

I’ve been finding it difficult to enjoy Western media recently, so I signed up for Viki and now I can watch all the Kdramas and other Asian content I want ad-free for $7.99/month. For less than the price of a movie ticket I basically have an unlimited sarotonin factory at my disposal.

I know this is not the biggest concern going these days, but it stresses me out that basically every artist/writer/critic is now expected to create their own tiny empire instead of getting paid by any existing entity to perform a job they've worked to get good at!!!!

My last trip to New York was at a weird time in the Broadway season. Many of the Tony-nominated shows hadn’t opened yet, but I did get to see Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) and loved it. Even though it didn’t win any awards tonight it still has a special place in my heart.

I did not post during the show, but other than how much I love theatre, and that Pink was a great host, my main take on the Tonys is that Leslie Odom Jr. was wearing a full suit jacket WITH A FULL LEATHER JACKET OVER IT and I want an article about it

1. London Underground station flooding has reportedly been reduced by around 90% thanks to a group of engineers: beavers. After conservationists reintroduced a family of beavers into a nearby city park, the animals built dams and restored wetlands that now absorb and slow floodwater naturally.

Finally made it to the Jaws exhibit at the Academy Museum. Very well-organized, with lots of original props and fun interactive displays. My favorite thing (not pictured) was the dolly rig set up so you could use your phone camera to replicate the famous dolly shot of Brody on the beach.
A prop shark fin used in Jaws displayed on a white pedestal. Above it is a yellow sign with a quote from the movie, attributed to Chief Brody (Roy Scheider): “You open the beaches on the Fourth of July, it’s like ringing the dinner bell.A museum display inspired by the design of the Orca from the movie Jaws. In the center is a wooden fishing chair and a fishing pole. There’s a harpoon gun, a scuba tank, a ships wheel, and other authentic props and scenery from the original film.

Fun but exhausting day at the Ren Faire. I should have taken more pictures, but I got this one as we were going in.
An old-timey sign reads “Renaissance Pleasure Faire” in fancy red letters on a yellow background. Below it are musicians dressed in Renaissance garb playing in front of a mural featuring a rearing white unicorn on the left and a red dragon on the right.
