When Mark Twain coined the term Gilded Age, he was mocking the Golden Age. He ripped into the greed, corruption, and extreme inequality of post-Civil War era. Gilding referred to applying a thin layer of gold foil over cheap material. Any wonder why it’s Don the Con’s favorite period in US history?

Most of the responses fit a standard playbook we've seen from industries looking to suppress negative scientific findings, like tobacco, oil and gas, and car manufacturers: withhold key data points, call into question standard scientific practices, sow division by highlighting single studies, etc.

What a lie. Some of these people are being imprisoned indefinitely in squalid condition in African prisons. Others report being beaten and arbitrarily deported in violation of international law back to their home countries, where they face persecution or torture.
The indefinite nature of their confinement has taken a severe toll. In October 2025, a Cuban man who was on the July flight went on a hunger strike for a month-until he started showing signs of organ failure —to protest the conditions of his detention, including his ongoing confinement and lack of access to legal counsel.
Terrified of being imprisoned in Eswatini forever, another man repeatedly told his attorney that the prison there never lets people go. One man told his attorney that he feels like a caged animal with no end in sight. The prison does not have air conditioning, making the hot, humid summer months especially uncomfortable for the men.
Food is insufficient, medication is scarce, and requests often go unmet or are belatedly met.

Funny. I cannot recall any "diplomat" seeing their net worth rise by roughly 📈 $100 million to $200 million since taking the position. Yet Jared Kushner has. So, spare me any BS about his job description. It has nothing to do with diplomacy.

The worst part of Al Michaels & Kirk Herbstreit defending a sex offender was invoking John Madden's "winning is the best deodorant" quote. Madden was specifically talking on-field about a team playing poorly but still winning, not a dude who assaulted dozens of women.
