Scientists, I am asking us to do something that goes against our nature: Step away from fine-grained, nuanced arguments. Zoom WAY out. Share the big picture. Don’t soften the seriousness of this moment with “xxx may be ok in xxx circumstances” talk. It’s uncomfortable AND necessary.

For those of you who knew Victoria Brownworth on Twitter, she passed away from cancer yesterday. She was a fearless journalist who reported on AIDS in the 80s (when Reagan was ignoring it), lifted up the LGBTQ community, & rooted out corruption. Her wife, Maddy Gold, died of cancer in 2022.

The Wife's Bestie here. It is with a heavy heart that I must report that Victoria passed away yesterday morning. It was a gentle and peaceful ending to her long fight against cancer. She loved her X community and I hope she will be remembered here. Please remember her in your prayers.

#SFFChat A4: “She looked at Addy, her long, dark hair framing a delicate heart-shaped face, with a beauty mark right by her lips...”
"You're the young man from the Society meeting. What brings you in today?

Philly's mind was suddenly blank. What was her reason for visiting? She looked at Addy, her long, dark hair framing a delicate heart-shaped face, with a beauty mark right by her lips...

"Ah, Addy! Introduce me to your beau, if you will." Hugo Alvarez suddenly appeared behind his daughter, jolting Philly from her trance. What was she thinking? This was a young woman, not even in her social class, and a magic user at that!

She was taking this act as "Phil" entirely too seriously.

"Er, not a beau, Sir," she responded. "Mr. Phil Bexley," she introduced herself.

Remembering why she had come, her hand touched the newspaper clipping in her pocket. She suddenly became nervous, remembering her father' words to her many years ago. How much did she know about this man? Not enough. She decided she would use a less direct approach.

#SFGChat A1: My MC, Philadelphia Barrow, is a an absolutely gorgeous large bodied woman in the era of corsets and reducing diets (alt Regency England). But in my book, she’s considered highly attractive and it’s secondary to the story. This is a book where large bodied women are adored. Bring it on.

#SFFChat Intro “A few months on a reducing diet and you’ll be the envy of the ton!” Aunt Swinton piped. Philly wanted to take offense at this. She felt she should take offense at this. Yet she had no intention of coming out this season, and every intention of remaining a happy eccentric forever.”

92 years ago today, the Nazis raided the Magnus Hirschfeld Institute for Sexuality, where the first study of trans people was conducted, and burned all of its contents. Fitting that today is also the day SCOTUS greenlights the project of the eradication of trans people from society in the US.

Because majority SCOTUS’ rulings favor either religious ideology or profit for corps/the wealthy. They follow a clear ideological pattern that ignores law & constitutional principles & bend over backward to hasten the advancement of their goals, good of the country and people be damned.

#WeeknightWriters I did mention Last Train to Blazes. It's the story of a veteran, single mother, and small business owner trying to cope with postwar life. It's a fantasy, but it isn't meant to be an escape, as most fantasies are, it's meant to inspire compassion.
