Alright, this looks like a neat thing for me to try to keep up with. Chunish. It is spoken by the Chunish people of the Chunish Isles, as well as the Chunish clergy of many Chunish diasporas. I have a small and very incomplete dictionary. I made it to give more depth to a role play group I'm in.

What a way to start! The first three books take place in a desert! This is the Calibarkian Desert, a high altitude desert in the southwest of the Republic of Motornin. By the 1920s, the region had a lot of sudden settlement from new groups. Chunes, Rhenian Humans, and Saronin humans were moving in.

Gonna be selling my old Mauser. It's a VZ 98/22, quite a rare gun, but not really an in demand one. Problem is, it isn't in good shape, it probably needs a gunsmith inspection, and I can't afford the 8mm mauser cartridges anymore anyway.

Well she is already the narrator, so she's already telling the story how she wants. Also she reads and writes at like a kindergarten level so she won't get very far.

Just now found out that Tesla never actually released that shitass range extender for the cybertruck. I get that hating the cybertruck is a little out of season now, but like, yeah, it still sucks.

It depends. Sometimes she likes the chance to let things move slowly. Unless it involves waiting on parts shipments, then she is ready to kick the locomotive engineers if they are even 5 minutes late.

She's had one litter so far, and gets pregnant with two more over the course of book 2. (Chunes can carry two litters, they have the same kind of duplex womb as rabbits)

Ladies and gentlechunes, I present to you: Enya
Enora knelt down beside the Grand Matriarch and whispered. "Pastry is that man. She transitioned, she is a woman now."

The Grand Matriarch didn't reciprocate the whisper, she let out a loud belly laugh until her back pain forced her to stop. "You got yourself a transvestite!" She said as loud as her voice could go, then took a moment to catch her breath. Pastry heard and stood at the alcohol table, cracking open a can of beer, and shooting daggers at Enora from a distance.

"Oh Grand Matriarch, please don't be so loud."

"Sorry. Look, I'll tell you what, those transvestites are worth their weight in gold, if more women had cocks, we wouldn't need nor want men."“That Henri in your arms?” I asked

“Yes, he’s had a long day today, I think he deserves a little bit of feminine attention.” Maria stroked his face and kissed his forehead.”

“Yeah I should hope so. That dumbass broke my truck.” I said."Is that her?" James spoke in a whisper to the Captain.

"Yes, that's her. I'll introduce the two of you, just whatever you do, don't talk to her about religion." The Captain said. He gave James a strong pat on the back and they walked my direction.

"Morning, cap." I said, not taking my eyes off the truck.

"Good morning, Enya. I hear the girls are at school."

"Yeah, you know where I can get some woven asbestos?" I asked.

"Uh.. well before we get into that, I need to introduce you to someone." The Captain said.

"Not now I'm focused." I said.

"Is the truck that important?"

"This is the ambulance truck, damnit. If we have an emergency, I don't want to have to throw a cot in the back of a FWD again, the fact that we don't have parts is really starting to piss me off, people are going to really get hurt and we won't be able to help them. We need this truck fixed now!" James chuckled "You're knocking on an open door, Enya. I have what my Saronin Human fellows might consider to be something of an alternative lifestyle. I have two lovers of my own, Florentino and Sylvia, an Elven man and woman who live next door."

"How do you get away with that sort of thing in a place like Saint Martin? I thought homosexuality was illegal in the human cities?"

"I live just inside of the Chunish neighborhood in Saint Martin where the authorities tend to look the other way. I am a bit of a bohemian in that way."

I looked at him with a smile. "A bohemian? Is that big city speak for a parlor pinko?" I asked.

He shrugged his shoulders. "Guilty as charged."

"Well as long as you don't go preaching your atheism or socialism, I think we'll get along just fine."

My fiancee and I had a discussion the other day about how to describe Black skin other than using coffee terms, and I remember I had described Solomon Brasher as "His skin was black like the dark earth of much more fertile farmlands than ours."

I can't believe I had 111 year old Enya say that in the prologue. Fuck it, I'm keeping it.

I had to think about that one. Enya is a bit rough around the edges, maybe a bit crude, and she doesn't think of herself as a "good person" so much as she is just behaving the way she was raised.

I wrote a role play post once that involved the Chunes in a gun fight with Quars. There was a heavy fog. Nobody could see anything, but at closer ranges, the chunes could hear well enough to pinpoint the enemy Quars well enough to shoot them anyway.

In Chunish society, it's actually pretty normal. A lot of chunes are openly bisexual and that's just a normal thing. But make no mistake, that is for chunes only. The other species, especially humans, see that as one of the reasons why the chunes are a "lower race" that needs to be managed.

I remember when I was more active in Urbanist circles one thing that always confused me was the way British people used the term "pavement" They were always complaining about "pavement parking" and as an American I thought, "yeah, that's a normal place to park a car."

I'm not exactly a country fan, but I do listen to country, and I live in the middle of Missouri, so if a country music song is popular, I've heard it. But I have never heard of Choosin Texas, or even Ella Langley. I guess I'll give it a lesson and see if its good? I'll keep you all posted.

Yeah, it's called using a flashlight :) In the books, electricity, nuclear power, and engine thermal cycles are considered forms of magic, so by turning on a flashlight, you are casting a spell that makes light. There isn't really anything you would cast with like a wand or something, though.

I've become something of an Obama defender. I don't think he's some kind of great man, I just think by the standard of US presidents (a VERY low bar) he's at least in the top 5.

I think that's probably most of my main characters, but very much an important part of Enya's character design. Warm, motherly, nurturing, kind. Maybe not gentle, she's not so gentle. But she lives in the desert, started working at 9, works a job that involves being around the dead and dying.

The chunes have lots of myths of organized resistance against human occupiers, and much of that is done during the night or twilight hours, making use of their bright tapetum lucidum. They see in the night just fine off only the light of the moon, giving them a massive advantage over their peers.

This is actually one of the places where Motornin really diverges from the United States. There are police forces that are organized kinda similarly to the US, but they exist almost exclusively for situations that aren't likely to be violent, stuff like regular patrols, wellness checks,

Sometimes I think about branching out into writing self help books. My two ideas are 1: a detransitioner's perspective on masculinity, being a man in the modern day. 2: The art of being poor, skills to help you live within modest means and maybe even elevate yourself beyond it.

I've been looking for a new job, but it looks like everything that pays well is either 12+ hour shifts, or all the way in Sedalia. Oh well, I got a hybrid now so I shouldn't be afraid of a 30 minute commute.

The Republic of Motornin is a representative Republic with three branches, an executive branch, legislative branch, and judicial branch. It has a very strong constitution and a very strong concept of constitutional rights, which are described very clearly and unambiguously in the constitution.

Cori Palladium @coripalladium.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Because the Republic of Motornin is based on the United States, it has birthright citizenship and tends to be a very easy place to immigrate to, which has lead to the country becoming very diverse, especially in large cities. Also like the United States, this tends to clash against racist sentiment,

There are lots of abandoned mines around Tacust that get used as hangouts for organized crime. At the time, alcohol was illegal in every state except Calibark, so lots of gangs bought alcohol in Calibark, stashed it somewhere hard to find, and then exported it across the Republic.

Fall in Tacust is just slightly less hot and miserable. There are some mesquite trees, but not enough to really change color. Her favorite fall activity is spending less time watching people die of heat stroke.

I don't really consider myself to be a gamer, but the first video game I ever loved was Pokemon Silver. I never actually beat it, and I had considered doing that on an emulator, but tbh I grew out of pokemon in high school. The critters are cute, but the gameplay is boring.

The chunes evolved as crepuscular foragers, so they don't have the same connotation for darkness. If anything, the twilight hours offer a bit of freedom from the humans when it is just dark enough for them to have a hard time seeing, but is plenty bright for the chunes.
