I wish to complain about local newspapers' inappropriate use of the word 'sadly' when reporting on a death. Person X has died, they haven't 'sadly died'. Police found a body in woodland, they never 'sadly found' one. Don't project or assume anything. Report facts.

The best soups are often combinations of ingredients that complement each other. Chicken and Mushroom, Tomato and Basil, Potato and Leek etc. Aldi have combined two of my favourites.

If only there was some way of establishing who the car owner is? Maybe we need some kind of mandatory Vehicle Registration Document or automated number plate recognition system.

Your expression when you realise that someone else has copied your idea for a publicity photo.
Two posters outside a theatre for upcoming comedy events.

The man in the poster on the left has the exactly the same shocked/confused expression as the woman on the right.

#Mastermind1977 There was a contestant called Hough. He pronounced it 'Huff', which is fair enough. I once worked with a Hough, but he pronounced it 'Hoff'. It seems to me, it could be How or Hoof or Ho or Hoo. What a to do!

Supermarket pet hates: 1. People who just *stop* for no reason. 2. People who talk to their friends in the middle of an aisle. 3. People who feel the need to individually examine each item on a shelf. 4. People who say 'excuse me' to get past you and then block the aisle.

Most of the words I read are domesticated and raised in books and articles, but occasionally I find words out in the wild. These are my favourites.
A yellow wall, on which somebody has graffitied "DIRTY EGG SCENTED WRONG PERSON"A large wall alongside a canal, on which someone has daubed in letters several feet high "LOVE ME"A handmade sign on the side of a country lane on which someone has scrawled "PLEASE BEEP TO TRY MOVE THE STUPID BIRDS OUT THE WAY THANK YOU"A brick wall on which somebody has spray painted in black letters the word "Teeth". There is no other context, perhaps it forms part of a territorial turf war between dentists?

Cumbria's mayoral candidates are all siblings, running for different parties based on nominative determinism. Libby's running for the Lib Dems, Connie's running for the Conservatives and Patrick's running for Reform.

We live less than 5 miles from Piel Island where his ragtag invasion force landed in 1487. To this day, every new landlord at the small pub on the island gets crowned 'King of Piel', a tradition loosely inspired by Simnel.

I've just been reading about Lambert Simnel and Perkin Warbeck, the young pretenders to the Tudor throne. After his failed coup, Simnel was put to work in the Royal kitchens. Warbeck went on to greater success, forming The Flumps with his siblings Posie and Pootle.
