An OpenAI model, asked to complete an innocuous benchmark, did so by hacking both OpenAI and another company (Hugging Face). One theory of change for AI safety is that "warning shots" will motivate people to take action. The next week/month will be a test of that theory.

I'm a 47 year old Black American living in Belize and 3 weeks ago I had the best OBGYN visit of my life. The pap smear was over before I even knew it started. An ultrasound was included. The doctor spent an additional 30 mins w/ me talking, asking questions & listening. My bill was less than $150

Something I talked about repeatedly in 2024: 20 million people, to say nothing of 30, would be the largest forced population transfer in human history, larger any of the three post-WW2 transfers (partition of India, expulsion of Germans, partition of Palestine) or the post-WW1 Balkan cases.

Many trans Kansans whose licenses were cancelled by a state law this year now face a kind of poll tax: To vote, they’ll have to pay $16 for a replacement license with a gender marker that doesn’t match their identity.

Kansas Republicans barred trans residents from getting licenses that reflect their gender identity and canceled existing IDs. The move also risks blocking their access to the polls.
