This anecdote from @neilhimself.neilgaiman.com from an interview that ran in Comics Interview ages ago is dedicated to anyone who might currently be wrestling with a bout of impostor syndrome.

Neil Gaiman relates having called editor Karen Berger in the middle of the "Brief Lives" arc, saying "This isn't working, it's a huge mistake, I'm completely out of my depth. I'm completely lost, we should never have started this, I don't know who told me I could write in the first place and this has never happened before." Karen pointed out this had in fact happened before, that he had called her similarly halfway through the "A Game of You" arc, and before that halfway through the "Seasons of Mist" arc.

When we've experienced abuse &/or neglect, it's extremely common to blame ourselves for not feeling loved-- especially if we have someone listing all the ways they "tried" to love us, & guilting us for not being "open" to it. Thing is: not feeling loved is not your fault.
