I can't say for sure what's going on in other people's heads, but I think it's because for so many boosters & doomers, it's become a core belief that their chatbot buddies/LLM-enabled supertools are understanding and reasoning. >>

It's not the ppl who have been harmed while attending college and listened and validated ppl who came before them, that also want harm prevented and condemned, that are the problem. It's very much the institutionalization of violence of ppl in power that permit it generation after generation..

With white privilege and white execution of "restorative justice" the current responses to institutional racism, rape culture and financial burden is very "zoomed in" on only empathizing with a small group of ppl. And ignores intergenerational chronologies.

It's very emblematic of the forces that sabotage potential for abolishment. That ppl who force "harm reduction" like inadequate intentional responses to violence -are constantly empathizing with perpetrators and that comes in direct conflict with weighing appropriate consequences for harm.

for me it was a dismissive, victim-blaming cop (high school, reporting a rape that happened in middle school that i told a counselor about - they’re mandated reporters, which i didn’t know). and then in college it was getting sent to a cpc and being forced into mediation w/my rapists (diff rape)

like i say every time this comes up, the term for what awaits survivors who go through the official system (cops, rape kit at the hospital, the hell of a trial where you as the victim get to be cross examined by yr rapist’s defense) is called “the second rape”

The answer is to stop letting multiple social institutions compound harm at survivors expense and pretending that laundering one form of debt forgiveness over and over is an impactful form of restorative justice is intellectually dishonest. And doesnt account for intergenerational harm.
