The Cornell community has floated abolishing the Cornell Police Department. We should take it seriously, especially if you think that survivors should have the option of going to the police instead of their schools. I feel strongly about this too, because something people don't understand is that universities at this point are essentially total institutions. For a lot of students, their schools are not just schools.
They're their landlords, their employers, their source of health care, their gym, their coffee shop, the arena where they attend concerts. It leaves survivors with almost no real options. If you can't trust your school and your school systematically discriminates against sexual-assault survivors, where is left for you to go?

*so important*: if you’re voting by mail, assume the USPS will delay because it’s its policy. You can: —put it in drop box —go to counter to watch them postmark in front of you —if you’re dropping it in a mailbox, do it VERY EARLY.

Even if you can stomach it why join the group that is in competition for bottom of the barrel in federal enforcement if you have any other options really. Have to travel constantly so don't even get the stability of CBP and never get praise from everyday people like police often get in general.

Sure, Alito could get stuck with no ability to retire and get a like-minded replacement. That said, this certainly could be seen as public comments made to give Senate Republicans a talking point in their effort to keep the Senate in Republican control. news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law-week/...
Justice Samuel Alito said he plans to remain on the Supreme Court even if Democrats capture the Senate in next month's midterms, dismissing speculation that he might quickly retire to ensure Donald Trump can get a successor confirmed.
"I intend to stick around through this term," Alito, 76, said in an interview last week as the court prepared to open a term that will run through next June. "I made that decision many months ago." (

of why didn't the scientist just use the prophylactic treatment after a likely accidental exposure (we know how to treat the plague) makes everything more worrisome but in a country sending prisoners to the front line of a self made debacle of a war logical response from its people gets less likely.

With Talarico now the slight favorite in the race, national Republicans have flooded Texas' airwaves with commercials to save Paxton's flagging campaign. That makes sense. Any Texan who has turned on the TV in the past few weeks already knows that Talarico is "for they/them" and seen the ad where a Latino boy gets hit with a Transgenderification Beam and turns into a beautiful woman. But much of the nation was confused about why they, non-Texans, were seeing this stuff while trying to watch the Philadelphia Eagles-Los Angeles Rams game on Sunday.

My personal "woke" view is that I hold men to standards; those men knew what they were doing and knew it was wrong. Everyone coming up with excuses for it also knows it's wrong but they either (a) cowardly want to avoid dealing with it or (b) want it to be debatable so they can do it with impunity.

worst case scenario when authoritarian countries often have horrendously poor responses to screw ups, even when its very likely this is a lab exposure screw up. It sucks that we have utter incompetence in charge making fear a natural response but would still argue basic incompetence is most likely.
