From the outside, rendering optimization can look a little bit like black magic. That's why @clayjohn.bsky.social, lead maintainer of the rendering team, is here to show a few examples of some optimizations from this year to highlight that optimizing rendering code isn’t as scary as it sounds.

Another one of the pictures I took recently! This dragonfly really didn't want to sit still for longer than a few seconds at a time, so it took quite a while until I got a good picture. I love how colorful dragonflys are ✨ #photography #nature #dragonfly #naturephotography
Photograph of a green dragonfly hanging on to a small twig of a plant. The background is blurry greenery that could be plants, but it's too blurry to exactly say what it is. The dragonfly itself is in focus and has a metallic green color with some reflective yellow highlights. It's wings are almost entirely transparent, with small black lines forming intricate patterns.

Took some more pictures! #photography #nature
Photograph of a log in a dense forest. In the focused foreground a piece of moss covered bark lays across the log, while the log contines into the blurry background. The moss in the foreground is colored in a vibrant green while the background has muted and darker colors.A photograph of a plant with two blossoms. One blossom (top left) is already wilted, the other one (bottom right) is bright pink and looks like a fluffy ball. The image has somewhat muted colors, with the pink blossom seemingly defying it's environment.

There is no part of this paragraph that isn't genuinely scary - important read from the Guardian's @kateconnolly.bsky.social on the Saxony-Anhalt state election. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/s...
The populist, far-right, anti-immigration Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) has surged to a resounding victory in a crucial state election in Germany, but fell just short of winning a majority in its quest to form the country’s first far-right state government since the second world war.

Photograph showing a sheep lying down on a dyke. It has light caramel colored (almost white) fur and looks to the right. The background is blurry and has dark green trees. The lighting is soft and warm as the picture was taken shortly before dusk with a partly clouded sky.

it feels odd that what's holding technology back from benefiting humanity at this moment, isn't really a technological problem, but a bureaucratic issue of incentive structures there's so much money being wasted on things that are either neutral or a net negative within tech now, it's weird

Last week I needed some time for myself to relax after I had a rather rough and exhausting start into the month. I wanted to get back into #photography for quite some time, and I finally did! I forgot how much I love creating photos, I should definitely do this more often ✨️
A photgraph of an old light-blue industrial crane, covered in graffiti, against a blue sky with no clouds. The most prominent graffiti reads "feminismus" (the german word for "feminism") in all caps. The background has two railway bridges over some water on the left side, and some old industrial buildings on the right side. The whole picture is tilted a bit to the left side.A photograph taken from the bottom of an old industrial crane, looking up towards the blue sky through a cage around the ladder. The ladder itself is leading up to the cranes control room, which is on the right side of the picture. The whole structure is covered in graffiti, and some plywood is attached to the bottom of the ladder to prevent people from actually climbing up.A close-up photograph of plants. The focus is on a bright red fruit cluster in the bottom left third of the picture. It is framed by various green leaves around it, which are blurry in the background and contrast a lot with the fruit cluster.A photograph of an orange blossom, backlit by the setting sun in front of a lake. The blossom itself has a lot of leaves and their fine internal structes becomes visible because of the light shining through it. The reflection of the setting sun on the water surface can be seen directly through a small gap between the blossom leaves, creating a star shaped lens flare around it. The background is blurred, but the soft silhoutee of Hamburgs telecom tower is slightly visible in the reflection on the lake.

I think given the scale @godotengine.org is now at, this is an incredibly incisive approach to combat generative AI's awful impact on people, code, and communication. Also focusing the ban policy on access & pull requests is a smart way of eliminating huge parts of the problem in a practical way.
