Have been told Unite's position is still the same - women's seats are open to ALL women - and they have not been told they need to change to comply with legislation. There are some within Unite trying to get an anti-trans position but that would need a policy change at conference.

In the meantime, if you need a different union, consider Unite, if it's appropriate. I'm in the NUJ (Ire). The UK NUJ is run by transphobic asshats who took my money for a few months but wouldn't approve my membership. They interrogated me as to why I wanted to join as I'd 'done fine' without them

I have to admit, the example of Britain has really shaken my faith in universal healthcare. This is the most fucked up and immediately harmful policy decision I think I've ever seen in adult trans healthcare in the UK, and that's saying something. The Welsh Gender Service is one of the best in the country. It is widely praised by the patients it helps. That is why it is being targeted.

The reality of being trans in the UK is of a brutalisation and a trauma that is forcibly reopened on at best a weekly basis. I think it is difficult for anyone who is not trans to grasp what an overwhelming nightmare it is to spend a single day in this country while trans.

Wales went from the worst country in the UK for trans healthcare to the best because community members and clinicians collaborated to create not just a new service, but a new service that actually worked. Of course Wales has higher rates of surgical referrals. People get seen by doctors.
