It's an extraordinary, and very original, film. I'd classify it as 90% psychological thriller/10% full-on horror. The real horror comes from the unrelenting mundanity of the backrooms, themselves. That, and the way the characters almost always seem to inhabit spaces that are too big for them.

I distinctly recall that scene, as well. Within the first two minutes of the very first episode, Hooperman's shower fails. Without missing a beat, he pulls off the toilet tank cover, sticks his head in, and keeps on washin'. We'd sure as heck had never seen that on TV before. Certainly not in 1987.

The success of Emily Wilson's translation had nothing to do with Christopher Nolan. The hardcover edition came out 9 years ago and was a huge success. The paperback has been in steady demand since 2018. My store has sold 75 copies (a lot for 1 book for us) and 66 of those were before January.

We didn't luck out with "The Odyssey" during my FYP year (1992). No, sir! We went from the awesomeness of "The Epic of Gilgamesh" right into "The Illiad" and - good Lord - did I ever hate it 😑. Fortunately, we'd followed that up with "The Aeneid" which somewhat made up for it.

I understand your pain 😔. When I lived far away from any Arby's, I'd make do with some deli Angus beef sandwich meat and some Diana Sauce (original) in a kaiser bun and toasted in a toaster oven with a few slices of cheddar melted on top. It's not the same, but close enough to scratch that itch.

I prefer "Day" for many reasons. Also, the longer I contemplate the setting - everyone holed-up in an underground bunker with no outside contact or hope for rescue and the social order unraveling between the scientists and civilian engineers vs. the soldiers - the more hellish (and timely) it seems.

Nothing terrible to confess, here. Not only is the 7th Doctor era one of the best, IMHO, but I'd also argue that Ace is one of the Doctor's very best companions ever. She also turns up for the 13th Doctor's final story, and it's lovely.
