And that’s not enough to make me care about the HBO show. I’ll put my views on JKR aside because you can guess. But it’s aiming for the audience of the Disney Live Action remakes where coming off as a knockoff of the earlier thing just with a few more things addressed is considered a virtue.

If Rowling hadn’t burned bridges with many of the more talented parts of the original fandom including Neil, we’d probably be getting an official Potter Puppet pals movie from WB at this point. Oh well. I’ve moved on from the fandom in terms of anything other than academic curiosity.

I’ll admit that Malfoid fascinates me precisely because of how basic and lacking in creativity it is. ”What if the character that everyone is sexualizing and obsessing over got sexualized and obsessed over as a girl” is probably something that came up multiple times over the past 20 or so years…

Often my ideal form of analysis is not a binary ”is an individual good or bad to like this?” but to instead analyze it, however amusing or ridiculous it might seem, as art, culture or literature reflecting the culture that produced it with all the contradictions that entails.

But that’s ironically one of the things that ensures the franchise stays stagnant. They can’t change the basic look or feel of the franchise because it has to match the theme park at least kinda despite this supposedly being a different continuity.

It’s not making up a guy to get mad at. It’s making up a guy who’s mad at you. They’re not capable of just liking things anymore without having it be about some imaginary person on the other team who’s mad at them for it. Which ironically is what actually annoys people.
