New paper out today! Led by Daniel Schwarz, we retrodeformed the skull and reconstructed the cranio-mandibular musculature of the giant stem-amphibian Mastodonsaurus giganteus. Our results show that Mastodonsaurus had a powerful bite and a crocodile- like bite-and-hold feeding style.

Had a cracking couple of weeks on fieldwork in the Madygen Geopark in southern Kyrgyzstan, met some fantastic people (including @fionmaws.bsky.social @kazakhpaleontology.bsky.social and @bestfishes.bsky.social) and found some very exciting things 😁 I love a desert, and what a desert it is!
