I truly, deeply, sincerely do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That's kind of the whole point of having a job and I can't believe this is considered a radical position.🤷🏽‍♀️

I was privileged to assist a MSc student with his fieldwork on schist geckos at Mokomoko Dryland Sanctuary earlier this week! The sanctuary is teeming with kārara/lizards and is such a great example of community based conservation. All geckos handled with a DOC permit by permit holder.

Each reptile leaves different footprints and we identify their habits with ink trap cards. That's my theme for the reptile mugs. Otago skinks are one of the largest skinks in Aotearoa New Zealand. The full body is about lifesize and wraps around this cup. #herps #sciart #reptileart #skink #mug

Today I painted a burgan skink with Ourisia caespitosa. This is an alpine skink, endangered in Aotearoa NZ from loss of habitat to agriculture and introduced predators. I'm hoping to paint this as a mural in Central Otago, where small populations remain. #skink #herp #lizard #reptile #sciart

Hiking interest and penalties on overseas student loan holders while marginally lowering repayments for those in NZ - without raising the repayment threshold from a measly $24,128/yr - does nothing but ensure Kiwis forced to leave because there are no jobs here will never return.

The Warehouse putting the price of milk up 80 cents unless you sign up to their new club card and give them your data is evil, actually.
A photo of the milk fridge at The Warehouse showing 2L milk and signs with two prices. One says "everyday low price, $4.79" and the other says "club price, $3.99". The milk was $3.99 the other week without the club card.

While I don't necessarily disagree, we also have a terrible habit of not making timely and cost-effective decisions when we do have environmental data. Monitoring towards extinction is a very real problem, and all data collection programmes need to be tied to decision making processes.

No less than 60 million stars in one image. It's possible thanks to ESA's Euclid mission. For just one day, Euclid turned its gaze to the crowded heart of the Milky Way and captured the largest, most detailed photo ever taken of our galaxy's centre in visible light. Let's dive deeper 👇 🔭 🧪 ☄️ 1/8
A dense field of tiny stars fills this square image taken by the European Space Agency’s Euclid space telescope. The lower and central areas are dominated by bright yellow and gold colours, forming a textured background similar to fine glitter or sand. Dark brown and black patches cut irregularly through the yellow regions, like ink stains or clouds of smoke. Toward the upper left, the colours shift to purple and reddish tones, blending gently into the surrounding star field. Small blue points of light are scattered across the image.
