The countless people who glossed over disinformation and normalized MAHA in any way should recognize this the result of their actions. We no longer have to wonder how the Tuskegee experiments were allowed to happen. We are seeing it for ourselves.

NASA picture of the day today is a real 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿beauty! This is a composite image of the ~5000yo Callanish Stones on the Isle of Lewis. The imposing Callanish Stones stand talk with their shadows spanning out across the glass. It's a super clear sky, but looks cold. Above the central stone is a strange figure-of-8 shape of dots. This is the location of the Sun, at noon, on various different days across the year.

Equatorial Guinea is a dictatorship run by the same man since 1978, with his children running large portions of the state now. We paid this dictatorship millions of dollars to let us deport random people there. Our money was used for this inhumanity.

RIP
Sam Neill on why 'The Piano' (1993) is an important movie in cinema history:

"I don't think I can overestimate how important 'The Paino' is for me in hindsight. it sits on my funny old CV like a medal on my chest. It wasn't my film. It Jane Campion's. I wasn't the star of the film. That was Holly Hunter. But there is honour to be found in the second fiddle. Or fopurth. No one notices you much, you don't get nominated for things. But you served. I was there in an important feminist film. I was there on the front line in an important New Zealand film. Neither of those labels does the film justice. It's a work of art. And look, that tiny little figure in the fabric—see down there on the right—that's me. It's a film that will always have a place in cinema history. And I served in it."

We can see this in the ICE flight data. Domestic “round-up” flights are spiking, and some activist flight watchers report the flights are getting fuller. But deportation and removal flights remain steady. This means the concentration camps are getting packed to the brim. It’s awful to comprehend.

As an American history professor, I regularly read new books, articles, and dissertations, and also evaluate unpublished manuscripts for journals and book publishers. I would not categorize the recent and emerging historiography in the binary way that Ezra Klein does.
There has been a severing of American history into two visions: one that can only see glory and one that can only see suffering and sin.

Deep inner suffering inevitably arises when the human person is reduced to performance, consumption, or a statistical datum. Many young people today live under the yoke of
expectations to perform, immersed in an exasperated competitiveness that generates anxiety, fear of not measuring up, and disorientation.

However, when we discover that our life has value, that we are loved, awaited, and called to carry out a task in the world, then hope is born. This spiritual force sustains life, even in the most difficult moments.

Connecting young people to digital networks serves no purpose it they remain disconnected from themselves, others, and their own interiority. We must help young people rediscover silence, reflection, the ability to ask questions, the depth of relationships, and openness to transcendence. To listen to the soul, we must lend an ear, because the soul's voice is not a shout, but a whisper.
