The White House Press Corps should've walked out as soon as the Trump regime banned the Associated Press for calling the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of Mexico." That was Feb 15, 2025. The first month of Trump Term II. Not surprising that abandoning principles for weak acquiescence led to more abuse.

I always hesitate to lean too heavily into New York City exceptionalism. Lots of cities around the world are great and many of them do plenty of things better than us. But this @anildash.com essay gets at what I do think is exceptional about New York, especially at this particular moment in time.

There’s this sex bomb in front, and this, this creature—I don’t know what else to call him—this fuzzy, violent, nasty creature in back who only got pleasure out of making people and other Muppets unhappy. A creature of impulse, let’s put it that way. And when I watch myself—’cause I’m usually so critical—but when I watch myself, I just laugh at me. What I love about it is that my character’s trying so hard to be sexy and sultry. And this horrible creature in back of me is acting up. [Laughter] See? I can’t stop laughing. It tickles me to death.

Dipke on navigating information overload and using satire as an entry point to a political movement.
Abhijeet Dipke: Satire was a very deliberate choice. As someone trained in public relations and political communication, l understand that people today are overwhelmed with information, outrage, and political messaging. Often, a serious message gets ignored, but satire has a way of breaking through the noise. What attracted me to satire is that it allows people to engage with difficult issues without feeling lectured. It lowers the barrier to participation. A young person who may never read a policy paper or watch a political debate can still understand a joke, share a meme, and become curious about the issue behind it.At the same time, I was aware of the risks. Satire can be dismissed as humor if it is not rooted in a genuine concern. That is why, for me, the satire was never the end goal. It was the entry point. The Cockroach Janta Party started as satire, but the issues it
highlighted were real: freedom of expression, accountability, youth frustration, and the growing disconnect between those in power and ordinary citizens. The satire was never the destination. It was simply the vehicle. If the movement remained only a meme, it would have disappeared within days.
The reason it has resonated is because it reflects genuine frustrations and concerns that already existed. Our job as communicators is to ensure that the humor draws attention to those issues rather than replacing them.
