I briefly considered going into pure math (even made it a year into a masters program), and there is absolutely poetry in mathematics. The focus on rote arithmetic and application strangles that breath of life out of the subject

Better Call Saul solves my biggest issue with Breaking Bad. It has heart. The characters don’t feel cynical. They want to do the right thing, but they also want to take care of their own. By shaping circumstances to force that choice, it all feels more tragic

Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing an essay, writing a eulogy, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing for 5,000 years.

14 hours later and my mentions are still full of angry treatises about badly behaved cyclists. Bike lanes are not a reward for good cyclist behavior! They are infrastructure proven to make cities safer for ALL ROAD USERS. Whatever way cyclists have wronged you is irrelevant to the discussion!

And it's not just e-bikes. We are seeing cycling broadly being attacked in the U.S. and the biggest brands in the country are pretty much...silent on the issue.

Bike brands are pivoting to gravel and MTB in part because it's become absolutely hellish to ride recreationally on the road in the U.S. But at the same time, there's really no advocacy from the bike industry towards safer streets. And to be clear, I'm talking about the biggest brands here.

I'm not the first person to say this, but the bike industry in the U.S. is really missing a huge opportunity by not aggressively defending and promoting e-bikes. I think this is largely the result of it being an industry built on recreational cycling and not transit riding.
