The Dept. of Education has pulled funding for programs in 8 states that support students with both hearing and vision loss. A staffer at one program says he was told the Trump admin. took issue with 2 words on the grant application: “transition" and “privilege": www.propublica.org/article/trum...
Screenshot of article excerpt: The Education Department also was concerned about other words in the application, said Adrian Klenz, who works with deafblind adults in the state. He said he has talked with state officials about the discontinuation of the grant.

“I was told that apparently the administration is going through past grants and two words were flagged: One was transition and one was privilege,” Klenz said. “Transition — transitioning from childhood to adulthood. Privilege came up because a parent wrote a glowing review of staff that said what a privilege it was to work with them.” ProPublica obtained a copy of the grant application and confirmed that those words were included.

So I guess I've gone and drawn a political comic! I didn't like the discussion happening around the recent protest so I wrote a minicomic about it. There might be more. I have ideas for more. You can download a printable version for free here: enchantedpencil.itch.io/activism-com...
Title: Watch your language! Keeping morale up in the fight against facism.Character A: That protest wasn't enough! We need to do more!
B: Stop! This kind of talk actually hurts our cause. I know what you're trying to do. You think if you say:
A: We need to do more than we did!
Group, looking motivated: Ok! Let's do more!
or,
A: That action made a big difference.
Group, walking away: Well, we did it! Everyone go home.
B: People are the most motivated when they can see their actions causing an immediate change and positive effect. And they won't want to repeat actions they think didn't have a big effect.
A simple graph shows a stick figure getting demotivated when the time to reach their result is too long.
So this is the real effect of your words:
A: We need to do more than we did!
Group, concerned: That didn't do anything? Maybe my actions don't really matter...
A: That action made a big difference.
Group, celebrating: Maybe my actions really matter! What should we do next?

The fascists WIN by making us think we are POWERLESS.It's natural to think that the perfect event, if BIG and STRONG enough, will solve everything overnight.

Panel of a simple illustration of an X-Wing from Star Wars flying away from the exploding Death Star.

But this is a myth. One person alone has a small skillset, a small sphere of influence, and a small impact. The event that finally tips the scale may feel like a special event that finally did something different. But it isn't special.

An illustration of a scale with two piles of sand, the pile of gray sand on the left is larger and tips the scale.

Change WILL come from the sum total of all our small actions added together.

In the next panel the pile of rainbow sand on the right has become larger and tips the scale in the opposite direction.

“If I die, I want a loud death,” Hassouna wrote on social media. “I don’t want to be just breaking news, or a number in a group, I want a death that the world will hear, an impact that will remain through time, and a timeless image that cannot be buried by time or place.”

On Wednesday, just days before her wedding, 25-year-old Hassouna was killed in an Israeli airstrike that hit her home in northern Gaza. Ten members of her family, including her pregnant sister, were also killed.

The Israeli military said it had been a targeted strike on a Hamas member involved in attacks on Israeli soldiers and civilians.

I've finished my extremely basic normie tariff discussion. Here's what it looks like.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TRUMP’S TARIFFS
The quick version.
On April 2, Trump announced sweeping tariffs on every country except Russia, North Korea, Cuba,
and Belarus. Tariffs are a tax that are paid by the importer when goods enter our country. Prices on
everyday items will increase radically and responsive tariffs will harm US businesses. Ask your
federal representatives (numbers at reps.fyi) to revoke Trump’s ability to apply tariffs.
Who pays tariffs?
The country of origin does not pay tariffs. Whoever is importing the goods in the US pays the tariff,
and passes the cost along to regular consumers—in other words, we, the people will pay the tariff.
How did Trump calculate his tariffs?
Trump’s tariff sheet claims that countries charge the US exorbitant tariffs. This is a lie. The number he
lists has nothing to do with tariffs, but is instead a trade deficit ratio, calculated as the dollar amount
we import from that country divided by the amount we export to that country.
What is the difference between a trade deficit and a tariff?
Trade deficits are not tariffs. We buy more from some countries than they buy from us because many
Americans have disposable income and purchasing power. It is not possible, or beneficial, for
countries to have perfectly balanced imports and exports.
What impact will this have on your life?
You will pay more for everything you buy, and American businesses will lose overseas customers.
The last time America passed sweeping tariffs was in 1930; this is part of what made the Great
Depression last so long. Trump’s tariffs are higher than the failed 1930 tariffs.
Who is responsible?
• Donald Trump and his cabinet for imposing the tariffs.
• Every Senator and Representative who fails to block Trump’s tariffs.
What can you do?• Contact your Senators and Representative (info at http://reps.fyi), and ask them to revoke the
so-called national emergency that Trump is using to impose these tariffs.
• Distribute this fact sheet so that people know who is responsible and how to join in.
• Join a protest against Trump’s damaging policies.
Sources for these claims & this sheet itself can be freely
