of course "prison" is different then prison now. I think that we should treet inmates with care/repsect/diginity. But that is a different thing then prison abolition.

I've always felt like I'm to pessemistic for total prison abolition. I like it in theory I guess but I look at the world around me, at how people treet each other, and I can't envision a world where at least one person would not have to be in "prison" for societies benefit.

your response to “I was raped” should not be “I was right”

4 panel comic

Panel 1:
A Purple Woman looks distraught, on the verge of breaking down. She says “that man raped me”
Orange Guy standing next to her is absent-mindedly checking his nails. He says “Wellll, I’ve always disliked him and his work.”

Panel 2:
Purple Woman begins to cry. Orange Guy adopts an incredibly smug expression and says “Guess I must just be a good judge of character”

Panel 3:
Purple Woman dissolves into sobs. Orange Guy notices, puts his hand on her shoulder and says “Aw”

Panel 4:
Purple Woman crumples to the floor. Orange Guy, looking bemused, asks “Are you crying because you’re jealous of how smart I am?”

youth liberation NOW!!!! (I'm like half being a bit silly here but I do think that if more people viewed children as having interiority we would be in a better place).

Like for the record I was interested in politics from a young age. I was probably better informed on political issues when I was 12 then 30% of adults. I think you should vote. I'm just saying that we can't vote our way out of everything

110

Walter Melon @walterthemelon.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

Greta Thunberg talked to the UN (like a while ago)about how it feels like adults are selling our futures away. It's not like these sentiments are new.

I'm not American if that matters to you? I wanted to vote in my country's federal and provincial elections! I think that voting is a good thing! I was just not able to vote because I WAS A CHILD. Children can't vote, children are affected the most by policy.

120

Walter Melon @walterthemelon.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

You know who is affected the most by sport bans? Trans kids! You khow who can't vote to change that? trans kids!

Walter Melon @walterthemelon.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

well you see by youth I mean people under the age of 18 :) so they can't vote, yet are often affected the most by government policy.

Walter Melon @walterthemelon.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

telling all the trans youth who have killed themselves this year that they should have voted harderTM is true trans activism /s

Walter Melon @walterthemelon.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

of course this is a feels like thing. I know this is not necessarily true irl and that we can do a lot right now to fix our world.

020

Walter Melon @walterthemelon.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

I actually think that this is why there is a lot of voter apathy among young people today. We (because I'm in that age range) have seen our world gradually decline and have often seen no one do anything about it. It feels like voting is pointless because the world was already ruined.

311

Walter Melon @walterthemelon.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

Trans people are already ostracized by society. sport bans (and bathroom bans)further ostracize transgender people from our peers. This normalizes discriminatority policy which is a bad thing on it's own but yes can lead to more discriminatory policy in the future.

010

Walter Melon @walterthemelon.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

It's not a slippery slope because sport bans generally do lead to other discriminatority action towards transgender people! It's like saying that GAC bans for youth aren't a sign of future GAC bans for adults

Children are especially vulnerable because on average they are weaker swimmers. We have no idea how good of a swimmer this 5 year old was. Again if this kid had drowned, I think a lot more people would be mad at this mom. Child abuse? No. A bad thing to do? yes.

010

Walter Melon @walterthemelon.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

well I replied to your comment asking if children can still drown even if they're strong swimmers, the answer is yes (I also have my doubts for how strong of a swimmer a 5 year old can be but that is neither here nor there)

110

Walter Melon @walterthemelon.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

Like do I think this deserves child neglect charges? no. Do I think that you should be letting your 5 year old near bodies of water unsupervised? no.

120

Walter Melon @walterthemelon.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

Drowning is the 2nd leading cause of death for children from the age of 5-14. Everyone (yes even good swimmers) can drown even in small bodies of water (which is why you should bring a buddy when you go to swim!) The only reason people aren't outraged at the mom in this is because the kid is alive

221

Walter Melon @walterthemelon.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

a lot of people (not just kids!) who drown are described by their loved ones as excellent swimmers. Children (even those who know how to swim) can get overwhelmed really easily and that can quickly lead to drowning.

That doesn't make her beliefs good, of course not. But as someone who has grown up around a lot of womens hockey players I can assure you that these kinds of beliefs are common. Hockey is very insular. There is a reason (imo) why the PWHL doesn't have a gender inclusion policy.

She is on good enough terms with her teammates for them to elect her union representative. Not to mention a lot of them (Team USA and PWHL) have attended her wedding. I know we love to hate her, but I think we have to acknowledge that her beliefs are (at the very least) tolerated by her teammates
