The ideal is an identity distinct from big tech/uncomplicated boosterism, one that heavily leverages tech for concrete daily gains and not just future-utopian goals, something that people can associate with their friend who has a really good plex server, not with big tech "fix everything" efforts

- helping our peers and communities in small ways with tech: not huge liberatory moonshots, but plex servers, helpful bots, etc - knowing ball but not in a pure booster way - eg, 'help peer' and all the rogue-swarm roleplay is great, because it shows AI curiosity while not being lab/bigco-aligned

over a decade ago one of the elderly residents at the assisted living place I worked at gave me a crocheted blanket because the reception desk was right by the front doors, and I was constantly freezing from the wind etc. I wish I could tell her that my toddler loves that blanket.
