Published four books in trad and it was made clear to me I would only get in-house support for “issues” books and that my fantasy wasn’t the right kind of fantasy for a trans person to write.

SFF fandom has had this type of guy (and in some cases the same actual guys) trying to turn that culture into this for decades, and not always failing. You have to treat the creeps like the infestation they are or this is what you get. When they succeed in becoming the ones in charge, well, yikes.

Anyways, a recurring theme in my sci-fi is that you just have giant machines lying around that no one can use any more because something broke and everyone had forgotten the engineering fundamentals to repair it.

Still reading my ARC of this, but fuck damn I'm enjoying it! The texture of the world, the sense of history imbuing everything, the genuinely fresh cosmology and magic system...and that's just the *backdrop* for two EXTREMELY compelling viewpoint characters and a page-turner plot!

I do think medieval people would get a real kick out of learning that a bunch of their descendants spend their free time learning to make things the way they did just to feel connected to them.

The annoying thing with book two is also the best thing about it, which is that me making progress inevitably means I learn something new about the story and the characters, which then requires me to go back a bit and move some stuff around.

The Lady of Elche. This remarkable 2,400 year-old limestone bust of a woman with elaborate headdress and jewellery is an icon of Iberian culture from pre-Roman Spain. From La Alcudia, Elche, Spain. National Archaeological Museum, Madrid. 📷 by me #Archaeology

My photo shows a famous Iberian limestone sculpture known as ‘La Dama de Elche’ / The Lady of Elche, on display at the National Archaeological Museum in Madrid. Here is a description by the museum:

“Female bust that features a lady's face with very perfect features and that preserves traces of polychromy on the lips and specific areas of face and clothing. The lady is richly dressed: on her head she wears a headdress formed by a pointed tiara covered by a veil and on top of it a strap that joins the two side “cases" that frame the face, where the hairstyle and a headband would be collected on the forehead; the back and shoulders are covered with a mantle that forms folds on the front and exposes three necklaces with amphoras and amulet holders; the earrings of plates and infulas that hang on the sides of the face, and a small fibula that closes the tunic on the neckline. At the back, it has a hole whose function has given rise to numerous interpretations. It was richly painted with red, blue and yellow tones and application of gold sheets, of which hardly any traces remain.

Technically and stylistically it is considered a work of strong Greek influence, possibly made by an artist of this origin, perhaps linked to the nearby town of Santa Pola, after receiving the commission of a high-ranking Iberian character.

It has been speculated about its function but with a posterior opening it suggests a use as a funerary vessel, just like the Lady of Baza. At the same time, it has been interpreted as the representation of a goddess, a priestess, or some royal character or of the aristocracy adorned for a special ceremony and dressed in her best clothes that could constitute her wedding dress composed of three necklaces, diadem and fibula, comparable to those found in several treasures”.

Forgot to shill my work! My most recently published book! Combining the timeless “forever together, eternally apart” cursed romance of Ladyhawke with the blending of historical fantasy in a high seas pirate adventure of Pirates of the Caribbean! www.amazon.com/dp/B0HBMKFDB3

Seven Years Love cover in the center: oil pastel of a ship silhouetted against the sky, riding the waves. A slightly transparent written list overlays the ship and sky, tilted to the right, with only some of the words visible against the blue, including 'Thrice stolen sailor's gem, a mermaid's treasure', 'the scarecly avoided', 'grave', 'dust', 'curse', and 'a whole'. On the waves, below the ship, reads Seven Years' Love, following the shape of the waves and the bottom of the ship and, below that, Ellie Lieberman. The words are in JTC Blackadder font, black with light blue shadow
Red sky sunrise/sunset in the background
Arrows forming a heart pointing to the cover reads
Sapphic
Star-crossed lovers
Long time established relationship
Low spice
Arrows with dotted lines reads
Crow familiar
Skeleton phantom crew
Witch
Curses
Small straight arrows pointed up and down at the top and bottom of the cover read
Pirates
Maritime Superstitions

Stay in the basement. All that scribbling in obscurity is what builds who you are as an artist. Once you're in the world, People will want to decide what you do. It's very important that you never hear a thing they say Especially if you're a people pleaser
