Autumn! One of my many favourite times of year to be in the #mountains.
Red leaves of Arctous alpina, green shots of Empetrum hermaphroditum (dwarf—shrubs) and pale yellow Cladonia rangiferina (a lichen) give beautiful autumn colours. Mountains in the background.

My Spanish champion is Pontevedra Mayor Miguel Anxo Fernández Lores, who kicked cars out of city center: “It's not my duty as mayor to make sure you have a parking spot. It's the same as if you bought a cow, or fridge, and then ask me where you're going to put them.”

This Spanish city has been restricting cars for 24 years. Here's what we can learn from it
Pontevedra, Spain, offers some of the best evidence available about what happens when a city is reconfigured to accommodate people, rather than cars.

Fossil fuel propaganda said “more CO2 benefits plants”. Indeed plant biomass is increasingly globally. But plants are made up of more than just carbon. Other plant nutrients, all essential, are being diluted by all that extra atmospheric carbon. #GreenDeserts www.newscientist.com/article/2531...

A promising natural technique to remove CO2 could backfire
Several start-ups have tried to grow seaweed to remove atmospheric CO2, but this could affect the levels of nutrients in the ocean and hamper other CO2-sucking processes
