Yesterday, Border Patrol evicted the tree occupation blocking the border wall construction at Lochiel, Arizona. Today, despite arrests and further repression, people occupied a tree on the south side of the easement, once again halting construction. crimethinc.com/meltice#ariz...

One of the small things I love about being an anarchist is getting to be morally consistent and say shit like yes obviously I don't think Israel should exist no states do not have the right to exist because states can't have rights Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

This is so true, and on a related note, it sucks that lacrosse was originally an Indigenous sport that has been appropriated and turned into something rich white kids do: www.history.com/articles/lac...

I’ve resisted calling ICE arrests/detention “disappearances.” But now ICE’s apparent policy is that in some cases, you might not even know if your loved one is still in the US. IDK what else to call that. documentedny.com/2026/10/02/i...

The Throughline: Is ICE “Disappearing” Detainees?
ICE is deliberately withholding the locations of some detainees from lawyers and loved ones. At what point does that amount to “disappearing” them?

Shut it down. #bospoli #ShutDownSouthBay
One former detainee, who requested anonymity for fear of retribution, told GBH News on Saturday that he saw some 15 to 20 officers beating Kenny after handcuffing him. He said Kenny was left for 30 minutes to an hour before anyone attempted to perform CPR, and he believed he was dead before leaving the jail.

“His eyes roll over and he dead and they was still hitting him,” he told GBH by phone. “It was bad. They didn’t have to do 'em like that.”

Kenny’s death has prompted calls for more information from lawmakers and prisoners’ advocates.

So we don't get to be "the fun ones," and we don't get asked back, because when our official duties ended, we didn't go to the bar to join the after-hours social party. It's not required, not mandatory, but the social impact is very real.

I have been a guest at conventions where, during the pre-con walk through, my handler has pointed out the bar and mentioned how some guests are "more fun" and "get asked back," then names only men. Because a lot of female guests aren't comfortable hanging out around alcohol with strangers.

"joking," loosely, because the president would very much decide how the federal government responds to a possible, imminent, or actual nuclear strike on a county of some 10 million people. for the record i have never made a joke like that about some nowhere town no one's ever heard of

ICE took two more people from my local courthouse today. The wife of one of the guys who was taken showed up shortly after. She just had surgery. She was worried about paying rent and feeding her kids. This is happening *every day* in Massachusetts. Lives are being destroyed every single day.

And somebody is telling them so, and has been telling every new generation of orchestra leaders so for 30 years now and maybe longer. That somebody is a cottage industry of consultants and pundits who make their money selling the notion of perpetual crisis and temporary, but ONLY TEMPORARY, relief.

That can't be it, either, because orchestra boards are mostly made up of people who don't work in the arts. They would have no reason to develop such a bone-deep conviction that the industry they serve is uniquely doomed to failure... unless someone was telling them so.

This seems like such common sense when you actually look at any arts nonprofit balance sheet, and yet, the resistance to its basic truth is so prevalent and so visceral among many of the people who lead orchestras in the US (and the UK) that I used to assume that all arts leaders were this way.

There is no shortcut. There is no one neat trick. Orchestras have been around for hundreds of years, and if there was a sustainability silver bullet, we would have found it by now. Sustainability is found in never, ever taking your foot off the gas, either artistically or financially.

I used to feel like half my time as an orchestra musician was spent patiently explaining, over and over, that no, orchestras have never in history paid for themselves through ticket sales; no, cutting concerts or auxiliary trumpets won't balance the books; YOU JUST HAVE TO RAISE THE MONEY.

It’s so funny to imagine what the UK could be like if it took seriously any of its cultural icons—that aren’t wizards, Shakespeare, or in possession of good fortune but in want of a wife. We could have Tyranid statues at Heathrow. Perhaps a grisly frieze depicting Servitor conversion at Gatwick.
