@volko.bsky.social so....as Coast Watchers has solitaire decks for both the Japanese and Allied sides, should the player count actually read "0-2", hahaha? Have you tried running the two bots against each other? Hopefully, if I get time to read the rule I'll be running it out solo this Friday =8)

Some wargamey goodness has arrived. I feel like a proper wargamer now I own a game that explicitly lists the hex scale at which it operates, on the back of the box. #boardgames #wargames

The game box fronts of Coast Watchers: Allied Field Intelligence in the South Pacific, 1942-1943 and D-Day at Omaha Beach

The back of the D-Day box which lists have stats, including the hex scale of 250m/275 yards

Play by play I see more 'n' more of the fine nuances of the game. At first you think it's all about the reports, but then you find other ways to gain VP's as well. You learn how to use your assets more effectively and to make use of geography. After everey play I already look forward to the next.

Another play of @volko.bsky.social s "Coast Watchers" by @gmtgames.bsky.social. First time we were going for a 5 turn scenario. Tight game, the Japanese won with 3 points! Managed to do some rescues and flood the islands with CWs, but my opponent was clearing a path good for his OPs. Great game!

Tried “Retreat from Rabaul” with a friend in Coast Watchers by @gmtgames.bsky.social, designed by @volko.bsky.social ! Enjoyed it quite a lot although I think some of the larger scenarios are going to be a bit more interesting. The allies won narrowly, and I’m keen to try other scenarios.
