1/2 Geoff has an interesting observation concerning how humanity may have to adapt to maintain its mental acuity in a world of AI. It echoes James Dunnigan, founder of SPI, who called wargaming the hobby of the overeducated.

I love a good changing of the guard. 💂‍♀️ But I find Sweden’s choice of household uniform a little off. Sweden hasn’t fought a war since 1814 (even Denmark is more recent) so what’s with all the picklehuabes and kepis? Shouldn’t you have to fight in WWI to have your royal guards in these getups?

And now for European scoring … parenthetically the Canadians would be the 4th largest economy in the EU — after Germany, France and Italy. Would also make the UKs “reform” party look that much more silly.

The new card design fits that aesthetic too: included are all 110 standard event cards, every promotional card printed for the game (so far), and 18 cards for the Alt-History scenario. Martin Gronau did the card design (with some tweaking by Terry) and the illustrations - we love his work here!

Of course, every event card in the game has a corresponding entry in the Background Booklet, explaining the history. This includes the fictional history for the Red Sun Rising scenario, and the real-world events that it is based on.

The new edition includes the Turn Zero expansion and many optional rules. All of these are included in the rulebook and incorporated fully, not as an afterthought. That includes the new "Red Sun Rising" alternate history scenario!
