The article itself is obvious ragebait, but I'm more angry about this pattern of publications assigning horror articles to non-fans (who are like anthropologists writing an ethnography of an exotic tribe) when qualified and talented writers who actually know what they're talking about get ignored.

Everyone is rightfully dragging the author, but the existence of an article like this speaks to a larger, more persistent problem: writers who don't like horror writing about horror. Look at this shit:

Do we really want just one (blood-orange) flavour of film available? And for all the invention being shown by this talented new generation of film-makers, the horror genre remains a restrictive one, the straitjacket of established beats and rhythms hard to escape. Even the greatest examples of the recent elevated horror boom will usually end with the familiar final chase scene and an unpleasant twist as the credits roll.
