Hello, everybody! Do me a favor and tell me one thing you're grateful for right now. It can be anything, no matter how "insignificant" you may feel it is. Go!

I know I mostly post just art, but I thought I would share a life update. I'm learning to repair old computers! Dell Inspiron 531, was in a building for years, no AC. I took it in and it wouldn't turn on. Some leads and deductive reasoning later...she boots! #vaporwave #frutigeraero #windowsxp

Day 10 of #ArtAdventCalendar. Tucked in a back alley on the east side of Toronto is a funky little art gallery in a former garage/stable. Gagne Contemporary showcases art by local a& far-flung artists. It's opening receptions often spill out into the night making a pretty scene to paint #artgallery

12x16 paiting, horizonatal. Calm twilight scene in a back alleyway. Garages and fences line the alley. One garage is ivy-covered. A garage door is open. The inside is bathed in yellow light. Two people are standing close together looking at 3 paintings hanging on the wall. The light spills out onto the brick driveway and asphalt roadway. Bare branches of trees reach up on the right, hydro wires string across the scene from upper left to top right. The whole painting is sketche din magenta which shows through the edges of the structures and branches.

Blocking anyone who is mildly sus immediately and without particular emotional engagement is obviously the best way to go but once in a while it would be nice to have a block option that ALSO produces an animation of the profile being flushed down a toilet or maybe the text melting gruesomely away

“My problem is I’m a perfectionist!” Being a perfectionist isn’t something odd or special; it’s the default setting we all begin at as writers. We all seek perfection. Professionals know perfection doesn’t exist and is only imagined in the eyes of the viewer/reader. “Perfect is the enemy of good.”

For #artadventcalendar day 5, here's a finished version of the sketch from a couple days ago :>

A drawing painted in watercolors of a fairy dancing and showing a child some magic on a snowy night. The fairy has long, grey-blue hair and is smiling while looking down towards the child. Their body is light blue, and their wings are a light pink. There's pink light emanating from the ground they're standing on. In their right hand sits a yellow and orange glowing ball of magic. The magic is right in front of the child, who is wearing a dark blue winter hat and coat. They are wearing a white scarf and red earmuffs and gloves. Their hair is a light brown, and their expression is that of wonder. Both of them are illuminated by the light coming from the magic. Scattered around them are trees that are also illuminated by the magic. Behind the trees and snow sits a dark, deep blue sky. In front of it all, the fairy glows. In the bottom right corner sits the artists signature, "Soot".

My spiritual aspiration for 2025 is simple and singular. To learn to be as kind to myself as I am to others, and to give myself as much grace as the Christ has already extended to me. And in doing so, to be fully at peace when I am quietly alone with myself for extended periods of time.

Day 4 of #ArtAdventCalendar. It's an effort by artists around the world to fill your timeline with art. Follow along, share the art. Today is a blustery day in Toronto so I'm sharing my painting of a chilly walk down Bay Street, against the wind. South on Bay, 36x40, Oil on wood panel #CanadianArt

Large painting, 36x40, portrait orientation. Mostly grey colours. South view down Bay Street with towers in varying shades of grey on either side of the road. A line of traffic heading north, towards the viewer. Two single people and a group of three walk down the left side of the street, painting all in black, shoulders hunched, hands in pockets, bulky coats. The shadows they throw towards us are bright magenta. The sky is grey, cloudy, brighter in the centre where the sun is trying to break through.

A hundred times have I thought New York is a catastrophe, and fifty times: It is a beautiful catastrophe. - Le Corbusier

Photo by Andre Benz - A vibrant aerial view of Times Square at night, glowing with neon lights and digital billboards. The streets are bustling with yellow taxis and pedestrians weaving through the illuminated crosswalks. Skyscrapers rise high, reflecting the colors of the bustling cityscape. The scene captures the energy, chaos, and allure of urban life, a timeless portrait of New York City's sleepless spirit.

Comments like: “I will never pick up a pencil again” or “i should kms” under other peoples work rlly makes me question if some of y’all just think art is a competition. For me it’s about personal creative expression rather than feeling the need to say something so weird and hide it as a compliment.

Alright yall. The secret to being successful as an artist... is to just make things you like. Because success isn't the big job in the end, but genuinely enjoying your work. My big portfolio pieces from my professional jobs rarely give me the same joy looking back as, say, a sketch from the bus.

Writers: yes, you are still a "real" writer if you - have never published anything - have no readers - didn't write anything this month - didn't write anything this year - can't articulate words anymore - can only float and mournfully wail - were murdered ten years ago on this very spot
