NM, it’s Traumaversary

As an autistic who is perhaps slightly obsessed with calendars, dealing with the dis-regulation that comes up around the anniversary of certain harmful events is significantly interfering with my day to day activities. Is there a term for the painful anniversary of injuries, tragedies, and loss?

“The voters need to take culpability” is such a big ask. It sounds reasonable, but unfortunately isn’t remotely plausible. This is part of the reason Leftists attempt to pressure Dems. It’s a long shot rather than a total impossibility, so no one can really afford to care if it’s fair.

Consider the exponential nature of extreme wealth and how much that really is by converting it to time. In seconds, most of us are worth less than one or two days. An oligarch worth $272 billion is worth 8,636 years. Take away 99% and they're still worth 86.4 years. 86.4 years vs. >2 days
Facts to remember when thinking about millions, billions, and trillions:

1 hundred thousand seconds = about 28 hours

1 million seconds = about 11 days, 14 hours

1 billion seconds = about 31 years, 8 months

1 trillion seconds = about 31,688 years

And of course she’s ok, we kitten - proofed everything fairly well. She’s fine. Why wouldn’t she be fine? But, I still want to be certain she’s still OK. If anything happened to her, I’d die.

We have a foster kitten staying with us, she’s so shy we hardly ever see her. I know I’m not supposed to be pestering her with too much checking on her and psp psp psping at her all the time but DAMN. I didn’t realize how hard that would be. I’m normally quite patient but she’s just so cute 🥹

In light of some magazines pulling scummy things on creators lately, I’m doing a little thread on short story rights. I don't want anybody getting taken advantage of. Also, if you're new, this stuff can be confusing!

I second the suggestion that *everyone* do some organizer training. It's free, it doesn't take a lot of time. You'll understand way better how things work. You can make yourself a confident and understanding ally even if you yourself (like me!) are not eligible. No one deserves "The Bad Meeting."

This case can get in line behind the far far worse, far more credibly threatening and seriously upsetting harassment. After everyone who has posted revenge porn or told someone they should be raped to death gets their day in court, maybe we can get around to this guy. (One billion years from now)

I love Asimov's Science Fiction and the magazine's editors. I've published many stories in the magazine. I subscribe to the magazine. Despite that, I'm done with the new MRM owners. This statement is BS. The new owners have squandered the goodwill of their magazines' readers, writers, and fans. 1/

I promise I won't spam the feed with my stolen art, but I wanted to share this one because I enjoyed painting it. I used black watercolors on toned paper, something I hadn't tried before. (There is a Leyendecker watercolor that made me want to try this combo of materials) "Nocturne"

Ironically, the centre right Irish Taoiseach is more left wing than the supposedly ‘extreme left - socialist’ NYC mayor. The Overton window in the US is a piece of infrastructure that is under extreme pressure. We need Mamdami to meet some left wing Irish politicians to inspire him!

My (drunk) HS Lit teacher showed us a modern movie version of Romeo & Juliet as a “treat” but didn’t know how to work the VCR and tried to stop it before the sex scene but accidentally fast forwarded right to the sex scene and stopped it on BOOBS.

Do people prone to believe extreme conspiracies ever get better? I’ve seen people go from one bizarre belief system to another slightly less bizarre one, but retain those odd qualities of circular ranting, and being sort of intellectually submissive to favorite dodgy authorities. Is there a cure?

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

It is not permitted to request jury nullification during a trial but it is permissible to discuss it abstractly. Jury nullification is the synthesis of two rules. First, the prosecution cannot appeal a jury verdict of not guilty. Second, a jury issuing a verdict of not guilty need not explain itself

I'm sick of the pretense that male homosociality isn't based in the veneration of violence against the vulnerable. I have seen the inside of men's "brotherhoods" and all they are is hierarchies of violence where anyone who doesn't support predatory behavior becomes a target of it.
