If you’re not driving to a park-and-ride, transit service on the Eastside can be pretty terrible.

Got reminded yesterday how much we can take for granted our accumulated knowledge in a particular field. A coworker had an issue where they were looking at a wallcovering for a project, and I pointed out the manufacturer didn't have any test data showing compliance with building code requirements.

The only speed camera I regularly encounter is at a school zone and it’s not one that can really be avoided one block over (thanks terrible city planning). People who regularly encounter it simply learn to slow down.

This is a huge issue in the S. Puget Sound waters. MANY violations of WA law here. Boats must be 200 yds from side/rear and 400 yds from forward path of orcas, with NO WAKE (<7 kts) within 1/2 mi (880 yds), and NO leapfrogging. We can do way better, this conduct is unacceptable.

I was on a Torrance Transit bus where the driver was getting trained and when the trainer saw a bike rider on the road ahead, she said "You have to give the biker four feet no matter what. If you don't think you have four feet, you need to wait to pass until you do." Wanted to hug that lady so bad.

The basket building is for sale again!? Let’s go!!!
Quote tweeting a statue pfp account (Culture Critic or something like that). They showed a photo of NBBJ’s Longaberger basket building and said “I’m calling for a total and complete shutdown of modern architecture until we can figure out what the hell is going on.”

My tweet is a photo of a collection of Longaberger baskets in varying shapes and sizes on a floor arranged into a sort of cityscape and said “This type of dense, walkable mixed use urbanism is illegal to build in much of the United States.”

White’s essay sits on my bookshelf. It served as a catalyst for one of my designs in a summer studio in architecture school for an apt building. Specifically his commentary on 18 inches being the connection and separation NY offers, and its gift of privacy and excitement of participation.
When I went down to lunch a few minutes ago I noticed that the
man sitting next to me (about eighteen inches away along the wall) was Fred Stone. The eighteen inches were both the connection and the separation that New York provides for its inhabitants. My only connection with Fred Stone was that I saw him in The Wizard of O% around the beginning of the century. But our waiter felt the same stimulus from being close to a man from Oz, and after Mr. Stone left the room the waiter told me that when he (the waiter) was a young man just arrived in this country and before he could understand a word of English, he had taken his girl for their first theater date to The Wizard of 0%. It was a wonderful show, the waiter recalled—a man of straw, a man of tin. Wonderful! (And still only eighteen inches away.)
"Mr. Stone is a very hearty eater," was said the waiter thoughtfully, content with this fragile participation in destiny, this link with Oz.
New York blends the gift of privacy with the excitement of participation; and better than most dense communities it succeeds in insulating the individual (if he wants it, and almost everybody wants or needs it) against all enormous and violent and wonderful events that are taking place every minute. Since I have been sitting in this
